Mr. Mauck's Musings
Before I begin with JHS news, I would like to congratulate the Jasper 12U Little League team on their performance this last week. This group displayed all of the characteristics we love to see in young people. While they came up one strike short of Williamsport they made all of Jasper proud. Great job boys.
I would like to say thank you to our students, parents, and staff for a wonderful start to the 2024-2025 school year. We have had several changes this year and the students have handled them very well. On Wednesday Night parents will have an opportunity to meet your student's teachers at our Meet the Teacher Night. Parents are encouraged to meet in the auditorium and then walk their student's schedules for introductions and sharing of information. We will begin promptly at 6pm and the evening will conclude at approximately 8 pm. I would like to take a moment to recognize a senior from the class of 2024 on twelve years of perfect attendance. Reece Fleck did not miss a day of school from kindergarten till graduation. That is quite a feat. Congratulations to Izzy Schwenk and Mr. Robert Eckerle for their selection as our Student and Staff of the Week winners. Thank you to Indiana Furniture for their generous donation which has allowed us to improve several areas at JHS.
Next week many JHS athletes will begin their seasons and others have been going since July. The girls golf team hosts Forest Park, Southridge, and Springs Valley on the Buffalo Trace course at 5:30. Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis and Football will all have their scrimmages this week. As our athletic seasons begin students are reminded to upload their activity pass on their phones. Instructions have been included in the Athletic section of the newsletter. Good luck to all of our teams.
Your student should have brought home their student handbook and a sticker for your vehicle celebrating their schools. I would encourage students to use the handbook to write down assignments and organize their calendars. On Monday all student drivers should begin parking in their assigned parking spaces. All student drivers, mopeds are included, should have a numbered permit and a corresponding parking spot. If you are dropping off your students, we would like to remind you to use door 17 on the North side of school. Student pick-up occurs in the east "band/tennis" parking lot. Please pull into a space and wait for your student.
I am very excited by this year's senior class and the leadership they will exhibit this year. I believe with their guidance we will see a tremendous amount of success. On Monday we will begin our club call-out meetings during homeroom. All JHS students will have a chance to check out the offerings and sign up for any that match their interests. Check out the class bulletin boards and the first day pep session pictures. Mrs. Burns had the magic happening in the library to start the year. I have included pictures of the JHS Staff that works so hard for our students. We have a strong group of future educators that have finished their education classes and are now employed as instructional assistants at the GJCS elementary schools. Artificial Intelligence is a fantastic tool for students to use correctly. Mr. Dodd's painting class experimented with prompt writing and generating images as inspiration for their first painting. Student Council hosted our opening day pep session and will hold Freshmen class officer elections next week. We will have a new batch of members to the best StuCo in Indiana. Enjoy a fabulous weekend.
Go Cats.

BOOK BANTER FROM YOUR LIBRARY
Our favorite time of year --Back to School!!!
Many thanks to Mrs. Luebbehusen, Mrs. Keusch, Mrs. Reinsch, and Mrs. Fierst for their hard work in making the library look magical!
Your magical library is beginning to come together. There are coloring sheets, a puzzle, word games, a checker/chess board, and loads of new bookmarks and books!
August “this or that” slips are available. You can also submit a slip stating your “favorite summer read” to the jar on the circulation desk, for the August prize drawing.
Housekeeping: lunch works a bit differently this year. If you wish to use the library during lunchtime this year, you must sign up in the library with sjburns by the end of homeroom. This must be done each day in order to use the library. The spaces are limited.
Additionally, you must have a yellow teacher issued hall pass to come into the library for any reason: printing, finding a book, studying, etc.
Finally, if there is a book you would like in the library, see me to add it to our wishlist.
Wishing you a most magical year!! Happy Reading!!
