Parkside Updates
Welcome to Week Seven!
Students and Families,
We are entering our last week of the fall iReady diagnostic. This data is important for our staff to help plan interventions and extension for our students. If your student hasn't finished the diagnostic please check-in with them to make sure they are completing it with their team this week.
Our bookfair is also being held this week during the school day with an option for all families to attend on Thursday afternoon during our home volleyball game.
Please don't forget to support West High School's football team by following the link below to help them in their quest to upgrade their facility.
Thank you,
The Parkside Staff

Help Support West High School's Football Team
West High School’s football program has been named a finalist for T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights contest. As a finalist, West football will receive $25,000 and is in the running for the $2 million grand prize.
The Blue Knights are among 16 finalists nationwide, chosen from thousands of entrants seeking the big prize to support their football program. The winner will be chosen based on the total number of “likes” on West’s official video for the contest. You can watch, like and share the video at https://www.instagram.com/p/DA6IPzVOS1v/. You can cast your vote through November 12.
You can find more information on T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights contest, and see daily updates of voting, at https://www.fridaynight5glights.com/.
The Scholastic Book Fair is Here!
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Dates: October 15-18, 2024 during the school day
The bookfair will be open to families from 3:00 to 5:30 on October 17 during Parkside's home volleyball game.
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/parksidemiddleschool2
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/ewallet.html
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair. Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair.
I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever. Happy reading!
Winter Sports Tryouts
Tryouts for boys and girls basketball will begin on November 12. All 5th graders are eligible to tryout for our Parkside teams. If 5th grade students are not selected, they have the option for trying out for their elementary school's team beginning the week of 11/18. All families need to register their students on FamilyID before tryouts begin. https://hello.familyid.com/
