STHS Basketball by Miri Lucksinger
Vikings Basketball is becoming one of the most attended and attractive STHS events for the winter season. In the last game on Friday, all of the teams played against Wooster High School. Every team maintaining a win and success versus this opponent was a significant aspect of the success and involvement of the Viking students and parents. The varsity teams both placed a strong defeat upon the Colts: 64-47 for the girls varsity team and 61-43 for the boys varsity. These wins placed a statement on the top of the league and placed a strong possibility of hosting two home regional playoffs.
The STHS dance and cheer teams were supportive of the teams and placed good settings for spectators. The dance teams collaborated with students attending other South Tahoe schools and performed for the Vikings at halftime. These students are seen to be helping and building the program; preparing to support other children similarly in the upcoming years.
The top players for the varsity games were Campbell Mathews with 30 points, Kai McClain with 20 points, Parker Bryant and Ronan Fisher with 12 points, and Avery Long with 6 points. There were assists, steals, and cheering from the bench and stands that these players utilized to defeat these Cults.
The Viking prep band attended both varsity games and has contributed to the positivity and motivation felt from the stands to the court. There has been a significant growth in the group and those attending which has built more and more music to promote wins for the Vikings.
STEM club by Viviana Wilson
The recently established STEM club at STHS focuses on teaching and providing opportunities for students interested in a career in STEM. During 2024 they had roughly 5 speakers to talk to guide club members through the decision process and the discovery of STEM career paths. Speakers like Jen Lynns, Dooley Riva, and Sean Fannon: all established entrepreneurs or practiced professionals in STEM careers.
Joshua’s Weekly Advice: Finish Your Work
I know tons of you guys had disappointing grades last semester, and we want to prevent that now. Do you want to go to college or feel good? Yeah? Okay, then stop slacking and get to turning in your work. And on time. People complain about failing their classes every single day, and like, think. Maybe it's because you NEVER TURN IN YOUR WORK. At least find some time to do your stuff. Homework, projects, everything, STOP PROCRASTINATING. Even getting a bad grade is still some points. Some points are always better than zero. Lazy. Get off your bed and do your homework.
