Student Spotlight
Cesar Nava Estrada
Cesar Nava Estrada graduated from the St. Vrain Valley School District in the spring of 2024. He attended welding classes at the Career Elevation and Technology Center (CETC). During his time at CETC, Cesar participated in Work Based Learning (WBL) experiences and attended guest speaker presentations and tours. His interest in the Occidental Oil & Gas Corporation (Oxy) was piqued through their guest speaking engagement, leading him to tour the facility and pursue an internship opportunity.
Cesar found the job search process challenging on his own, but with the support of the WBL team at CETC, he received assistance with resume writing, mock interviews, and job applications. He appreciated the team's dedication to his success and felt supported in his pursuit of the internship.
Cesar was selected for a 12-week summer internship with Oxy, where he gained experience in various departments such as automation, mechanics, and technology. Throughout his internship, Cesar has been impressed by the positive culture at Oxy and the emphasis on collaboration and support among team members. While assigned one mentor, he has found that everyone at the company has been helpful and welcoming. With a family background in the Oil & Gas industry, Cesar saw potential for a career in this field but was drawn to Oxy’s commitment to environmental protection and a positive work environment.
Cesar has been offered a full-time position at Oxy following his internship and is excited to continue his career growth and learning within the company. Congratulations to Cesar on this significant achievement!
Partner Spotlight
Occidental Oil & Gas Corporation
Oxy is an international energy company with assets primarily in the United States, the Middle East, and North Africa. They are committed to pursuing bold pathways toward net-zero carbon emissions across oil and gas, chemical and low-carbon businesses, while also providing products and services to help other industries to do the same. Diversity, inclusion, and their culture of belonging are critical to their success.
Oxy partnered with CETC’s Work Based Learning team to create an internship opportunity for students. Oxy’s summer intern program runs from June to August for a 12 full weeks (depending upon start date). As an intern at Oxy, students will have the chance to work on real-life projects and gain hands-on experience in their core businesses. Each intern is paired with a manager and mentor who will provide technical guidance throughout the project timeline. We are grateful for the support in helping our students succeed in pursuing their future careers. Thank you for your partnership!

Join us in preparing students for a successful future through work-based learning opportunities!
Johanna Rizzo and Tiffany Freeman
What do you like most about working at CETC?
Johanna: Seeing students build really important life skills through career exploration, real-world experiences and becoming the best versions of themselves so that they can have a successful future.
Tiffany: I like working with the students with their career interests and assisting with resumes and interview preparation.
What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?
Johanna: I love to travel, not as a tourist but as a local, so that I can immerse myself into the culture. Some of my favorite places I've traveled are Italy, Greece, and Albania.
Tiffany: Outside of work I am at the gym a lot and I love hiking with my family. I hope to learn to fly fish soon.
What is an interesting or unique fact about yourself?
Johanna: I lived in Mexico for a year, and "Rizzo", my maiden name, means "curly hair", which I have.
Tiffany: I am an extremely shy introvert, so this job stretches me a lot, everyday, but I still love it.
