U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION NATIONWIDE CALL FOR STUDENT PERFORMING ARTISTS
The U.S. Department of Education is seeking student performing artists (such as bands, choirs, color guards, dancers, drumlines, poets/spoken word artists, soloists, theatrical performers) currently enrolled in elementary, middle, or high schools, who exemplify resilience, diversity, and excellence and are interested in showcasing their talent. No formal training or experience is necessary.

The Alaska State Science and Engineering Fair is an incredible opportunity for students to showcase their scientific prowess and innovative ideas. North for Science! is a week-long field expedition for students currently in 7th and 8th grade. It is offered collaboratively by ASI, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Service, and BLM. The trip begins and ends in Fairbanks. Students travel up the Dalton Highway, camping near Coldfoot and Galbraith Lake. For eight days, they are immersed in an outdoor experience as they traverse lands adjacent to and including: Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, the Dalton Highway Corridor, and Yukon Flats, Kanuti and Arctic National Wildlife Refuges. Activities are designed to help them practice basic camping skills, learn teamwork, and engage in many aspects of field science/research as they investigate firsthand the dynamics of the changing subarctic and arctic ecosystems.

Ready to kick it up a notch? This overnight camp is for youth 12 and older who have participated in one of our Bonanza Creek camps in a previous year. We will spend 4 days (3 nights) in Denali National Park and Preserve, camping at a road-accessible campground.

Ready to take on a new role? This program is for youth 15-17 who have participated in at least one of our camps in a previous year and are ready to lead. You'll develop new activities that you will lead at the BNZ camp, participate in career exploration, and practice basic job skills in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Video Game Design Virtual STEM Camp for Military Dependents
Eligibility
- Rising 5th through 12th graders are eligible.
- Participants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent legal residents.
Is the gamer in your life curious about coding? Are they inquisitive and creative? Do they want to learn more about circuitry, engineering, and computer programming? Would they be interested in creating their own customized video game? Rising 7th-9th grade students are invited to join the scientists of the Army Research Laboratory as they dive into computer science and share their love for STEM during this Video Game Design Virtual STEM Camp! Student Activity: Do-It-Yourself DNA | STEM Activity (sciencebuddies.org) In this activity, you will make your own DNA extraction kit from household chemicals and use it to extract DNA from strawberries.
Student Activity: Investigate Alien Genetics | Lesson Plan (sciencebuddies.org) Students model how traits are passed on from parents to their offspring by creating baby aliens based on the alien parents' traits. As students compare the physical features of their alien families, they will be able to make the connection between an organism's genotype and phenotype. Students will also learn the difference between dominant and recessive traits.
Student Activity: Extracting Onion DNA | Science Project (sciencebuddies.org)In this project, you'll learn how to isolate DNA from onion cells, separating it from other cellular components in a manner that still preserves its structure and sequence. In the end, you'll have enough DNA to see with the unaided eye, and you'll be able to spool it to demonstrate its strand-like structure.

2024 Youth Leadership Program
The Youth Leadership Program is a fun way for teens to gain leadership skills while volunteering as junior counselors at Calypso's Farm Camps! Youth Leaders will have the opportunity to develop hands-on leadership and teamwork skills while assisting with camp activities and helping younger children. All youth volunteers will work directly with Calypso staff, as well as their peers - there's space for multiple Youth Leaders per session!
Requirements for Eligibility:
- 12-15 years old
- Interested in working with and mentoring youth
- Available to participate in training - tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 7th, 2024
- Can commit to working up to a 35-40 hour work week for at least one week during the summer
- Have a ride to and from Calypso Farm on your scheduled week(s)
