This professional learning series delves into the joys and complexities of purposeful knowledge building, fostering identity-affirming and community-centered classroom practices. Designed for all who work with children, it combines engaging discussions, practical strategies, reflection, and action-oriented pedagogy to create a culture of care and academic excellence.
Participants may select from a session featuring a topic of interest or broaden their scope by attending several sessions throughout the year. The choice is yours. Join us.

Knowledge in Action: Asset-Based Pedagogies for Schema Building with Trevor Aleo
December 5 at 4:30pm-6:00pm (Virtual)
Speaker Trevor Aleo will present this dynamic and interactive session, educators will explore the powerful intersection of asset-based pedagogies, schema building, and systems thinking. We'll delve into practical strategies that utilize students' diverse strengths and experiences as foundational building blocks for constructing conceptual frameworks that promote social wisdom and global justice. Leveraging scholarship from cognitive science and disciplinary literacy, this workshop will provide a bridge from the latest research to your daily classroom practice. By the end of this session, participants will have a toolkit of strategies to transform their classrooms into vibrant spaces where students' strengths fuels the engine of authentic inquiry, knowledge building, academic discourse.

ABCs of Decodables: Academics, Belonging, and Criticality with Amber Lawson
February 13 at 4:30pm - 6:00pm (Virtual)
Lawson’s emerging scholarship and teaching pedagogy support educators with incorporating culturally relevant texts throughout foundational literacy instruction in K-2. Join us as Amber Lawson shares how she incorporates children’s identities, lived experiences, home languages, and targeted phonics features by designing student-generated decodable readers co-authored by children to advance their decoding skills.
*Target audience for this workshop is K-2 teachers and instructional specialists.
K-5 teachers, literacy coaches/COSAs, school and district leaders are also welcome to attend.
