Greetings Lemira Family:
As we embark on this journey together, our theme this year is "Unlocking Potential, the AVID Way"! At Lemira, we believe that every scholar has the key to success within them, and through AVID, we are dedicated to unlocking potential that lies within each individual scholar. Together, we will continue to make Lemira great!
Announcements
1. Upcoming School Closures:
- Half Day Student Attendance (School based PD for staff) - Thursday, Oct. 10th - School will dismiss at 11am. Please send changes in the mode of transportation in writing. Please place in students' blue communication folder.
- Full Day No Student Attendance - (District PD for Staff) - No school for students Friday, Oct. 11th.
- Fall Break - No Student or Staff Attendance (10/14 and 10/15) School will resume Wed. Oct. 16
2. September PBIS Spirit Week:
- Our second PBIS Monitoring Period is underway!
- The monitoring period will run through Wednesday, October 9.
- Students who are referral free during this monitoring period will be able to attend our PBIS Celebration on Thursday, October 10.
- Our next PBIS Spirit Week will be October 7-10.

3. CoGAT Testing for 2nd Graders will take place Monday, Oct. 7th.
4. Surveys
Two surveys will come home with students Monday, October 7th.
A. Family Compact and Engagement Feedback - Please review, sign, and return through your scholar's blue communication folder. Your feedback is important.
B. Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Parent Survey - A letter will go home Monday explaining the process, as discussed at our Parent University. We are asking all parents to complete the survey before or by Oct. 25th. Once you have taken the survey, please sign the letter and return in your scholar's blue communication folder.
C. The classes with the most returned Family Engagement Feedback Forms and Completed BRSE Surveys will recieve a pizza party.
5. Qtr. 1 Report Cards will be issued Oct. 18.
6. Quarter 1 "Celebration of Learning" Awards / Honor Roll Programs
A. Prek through 2nd (Tuesday, October 22, 2024)
- 1st and 2nd grades 8:15am - 9:15am
- PreK and Kind 9:30am - 10:30am
B. 3rd - 5th (Wednesday, October 23, 2024)
- 3rd and 4th grades 8:15am - 9:15am
- 5th grade 9:30am - 10:30am
7. School Improvement Council Meeting
- Come join us for our School Improvement Council Meeting Thursday, October 17th @ 5pm.
- Come have a voice at the table as we look at school data and iniatives.
8. Parent/School Pirate Luncheon
- Whip out your Favorite Pirate costumes and join us for our parent/scholar lunch Friday, October 18th.
- Please see flyer, which will be sent home Monday, for your scholar's lunch times.
- Two guests per scholar to accommodate spacing in the cafeteria.

Title One Parent SEL Tips:
How can parents encourage healthy habits in children?
- Choose foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein and dairy.
- Don’t make the mistake of offering starches and sweets just because your child is currently rejecting the healthy choices you have on the table.
- Remember that a healthy child will never starve himself.
- Research shows that children may need up to 15 exposures to a new food before they will eat it.
- Offer a mix of new and familiar foods. Try to include at least one healthy food you know your child likes. Offer small portions of newer foods.
