Principal Nolan's Notes
February 5, 2025
Happy February, Hampshire Families!
We are halfway through our 3rd quarter already and feel excited and proud of the growth our students are making each week. The HES staff works tirelessly to ensure that each day of learning is meaningful while providing opportunities for students to reflect on their own learning journey. My visits to classrooms are the highlight of my day, seeing smiling faces and productive struggle that fosters growth. Thank you for your continued commitment to being part of the journey!
February = Flexibility
Each month, HES staff and students focus on a 'habit' that helps us find success. This school year we have focused on the following habits:
- Integrity, Speak with Good Purpose, Ownership, This is It, and Balance
In the month of February, we will focus on Flexibility - being willing to do things differently.
We are teaching all students that flexibility is the willingness to try something different when we realize that what we're doing isn't working. Many times a day we are faced with situations that are different from what we had originally planned. One way to deal with these situations is to be rigid and continue to do things in the same way over and over - another is to handle them with flexibility! Being flexible is responding to changing or new situations in ways that move us forward.
Talk to your child about ways he/she works to demonstrate flexibility at home and at school when working to adjust to a change in routines or even when something is challenging!
i-Ready & Top Banana Award
Another impressive week of i-Ready work at HES! Students continue to amaze me with their dedication to reach thirty minutes of Reading work and thirty minutes of Math work during the week. Some students are far exceeding that goal! Thank you for continuing to check-in with your child(ren) at home to inquire about their progress. All HES students know how to check their own time-on-task progress too! Ask him/her to show you!
Congratulations to this week's classroom winners in the KG-2nd grade division:
- Reading - Mr. Hart's 2nd grade class
- Math - Mrs. Bloomberg's 1st grade class
Congratulations to this week's classroom winners in the 3rd-5th grade division:
- Reading - Mrs. Herrera's 3rd grade class
- Math - Mrs. Leibengood's 4th grade class
Mr. Hart's 2nd grade
Mrs. Bloomberg's 1st grade
Mrs. Herrera's 3rd grade
Valentine's Day
HES classrooms will host Valentine’s Day parties next Friday, 2/14. As a reminder, students may bring in valentines for their classmates but please communicate with your child(ren)’s teacher to be aware of allergies before sending in any food items or food attachments to valentines. As an alternative, valentines could include things such as pencils, pens, rings, stickers, temporary tattoos, etc. It will be a wonderful day of kindness and caring at HES!
We want to ensure only authorized individuals are entering our school. If you are planning to attend your child's Valentine party as a parent volunteer, please bring a photo ID. We appreciate your patience as Sam and Bri work to verify each visitor. Safety is our #1 priority!
