A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
We are thrilled to share the tremendous success of our Remembrance Day assembly at LIS. The event was a heartfelt tribute to honor the sacrifices of our veterans and pay homage to their courage and dedication. We are immensely proud of our students and staff who actively participated and contributed to making this assembly a truly memorable and meaningful experience.
During the assembly, our students had the opportunity to honor their relatives who served in the military, and we were deeply moved by the stories and memories shared. It was a powerful moment of connection and remembrance, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by our loved ones for the greater good.
We were also honored to pay tribute to one of our own, Mr. Cameron Park, a cherished member of our school community. His contributions and dedication were acknowledged, reminding us of the impact that individuals can have on shaping our world.
We believe that events like these not only educate our students about the significance of Remembrance Day but also instill in them a sense of gratitude, empathy, and respect for the sacrifices made by others. It was heartwarming to witness our school community come together to honor and remember those who have served our country.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to all the students, staff, and parents who contributed to the success of the Remembrance Day assembly. Your support and participation are invaluable, and they truly make a difference in the experiences we provide for our students.

Happy Diwali
Diwali, also know as Deepavali, is a famous festival celebrated by millions of people across the world, especially in India and other countries with a significant Hindu population. It’s often called the “Festival of lights.”
Diwali usually last for five days, and each day has its own special significance and rituals. The main day of Diwali falls on the darkest night of the lunar month, which is usually in October or November. People celebrate Diwali to mark the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
During Diwali, people clean and decorate their homes with colorful rangoli designs, candles, and oil lamps called diyas. These decorations are meant to welcome the goddess Lakshmi, who is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, into their homes.
Families and friends come together to share delicious sweets and food. People also exchange gifts and cards as a away of showing love and affection towards one another. Fireworks and bursting of crackers are a popular part of the celebrations, lighting up the night sky with bright colors and loud noises.
Diwali is a time for joy, happiness, and togetherness. It is a time when people come together to celebrate the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Watch the video below to learn more about Diwali.

Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
