Update to the Crow Island Community
May 15, 2024
Dear Crow Island School Families and Neighbors,
As we near the completion of a successful school year, we want to provide you with information related to the construction and renovation work taking place at Crow Island School this summer. We would also like to invite you to a special Meet and Greet Opportunity with representatives from our construction partner, Bulley & Andrews, to be hosted at Crow Island on Wednesday, May 29 between 3:30-4:30 p.m. Please take time to review the details shared below. Our construction managers will be making door to door visits to immediate neighbors of Crow Island the week prior to the Meet and Greet to drop off construction-specific information in the event that you are unable to attend.
Previously Hosted Presentation for Families and Staff: May 2024
Crow Island Principal, Dr. Luke Livingston, recently hosted an informational session for families and staff focused on preparation for this summer’s construction and renovation work. The presentation may be viewed here.
Neighbor Outreach/May 29 Meet and Greet Opportunity
Starting on Tuesday, May 21, Dr. Livingston and the Bulley & Andrews Site Superintendent, Deb Rieck, and Project Manager, Mark Lomeda, will be walking door to door to introduce themselves to neighbors who live immediately adjacent to the school on streets including Glendale, Mt. Pleasant, Willow, Ash, Rosewood, Berkeley and Euclid. As these individuals will be familiar faces around Crow Island buildings and grounds, they will also conduct a brief meet and greet for Crow Island families, staff, and immediate neighbors on May 29.

Referendum-Funded Construction Update
Work begins at Crow Island School on June 14, 2024, beginning with moving the contents out of the building between June 14-16. Construction is anticipated to start on June 17. Summer 2024 improvements will include interior work on the existing building including a new library resource center, a secure vestibule, as well as excavation for the addition of a gymnasium and three classrooms on the southwest side of the building. The “TACO” mobile classroom will also be removed from the Crow Island campus this summer. Truck traffic associated with this work will be strictly limited to 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, primarily utilizing Willow and Glendale for in and out access. Construction will conclude with the opening of the new addition in the fall of 2025. For updates, visit the District’s Construction webpage here.
Village of Winnetka Stormwater Update
Over the past two months, the Village has made significant progress on construction of the Crow Island Underground Storage and Conveyance Stormwater Management Project. The project includes construction of stormwater storage and conveyance facilities under portions of Winnetka Public Schools District 36 and Park District property. Construction also includes relocation of existing water mains on Sunset Road and Euclid Avenue; installation of concrete box storm sewers on Sunset Road, Euclid Avenue, and Glendale Avenue; reconstruction of the existing stormwater pumping station; and restoration of the berm along Mt. Pleasant Street. The project has been made possible by Intergovernmental Agreements with the Winnetka Park District and District 36.
Currently, construction of the underground storage facility continues. Truck traffic for delivery of materials and hauling of excavated soils will continue to use Euclid Avenue and Sunset Road. All construction activity is expected to remain within the Village right-of-way and easements. This underground storage work is anticipated to be complete by June 14. The Village provides weekly construction updates for this project on their website: VillageofWinnetka.org.
We truly appreciate your patience as we make improvements to the Crow Island campus benefitting current and future generations of students and staff, as well as the Winnetka community-at-large.
Sincerely,
Kate Hughes, Director of Communications
