Attendance
24-Hour Attendance Line (714) 986-7110 press 3
Welcome to the start of an exciting new year!
At Brookhaven, we believe that every school day is an opportunity for learning, building friendships, and creating lifelong skills. Regular attendance is key to helping your child thrive academically and socially. Missing even a day can mean missing out on important lessons and connections.
Here are a few ways we can work together to ensure strong attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine to make getting to school on time easier.
- Schedule vacations and appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
- Communicate with us if your child must miss school due to illness or other reasons.
If your family needs any support to improve attendance, we’re here to help. Together, we can make the rest of this year a fantastic one filled with learning and success!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Dear Parents,
On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, Brookhaven will be participating in Global School Play Day (GSPD.) GSPD has been promoted by Psychology Today and is being celebrated at schools around the world. You can learn more about the benefits of unstructured play by visiting the official GSPD website: www.globalschoolplayday.com. I am inviting all of our students to bring in things to play with on this very special day. Here are some examples of things your child may bring in (be sure your child’s name is clearly marked on all items):
Non-Violent Toys (no weapons)
Legos, blocks, cardboard boxes, etc.
Dress-Up
Puppets
Stuffed Animals
Board Games
Puzzles
Sports equipment
*no electronic devices*
Though our play day will be unstructured, it will still be supervised by teachers. It is my hope that this one day of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured playtime during non-school hours.
PYLUSD & Brookhaven Are Committed to Student Safety and Support
Dear Brookhaven Community,
At the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) and Brookhaven Elementary our priority is creating safe, welcoming spaces where all students can learn and succeed. We are committed to respecting and supporting every child and their family, no matter their background or immigration status.
We understand that recent conversations surrounding immigration matters may cause concern or uncertainty for some families in our community. PYLUSD and Brookhaven are here to provide support, guidance, and resources with a commitment to ensure:
Schools Are Safe Spaces — According to recent guidance from the California Attorney General, school officials are only required to allow immigration agents on campus with a court-issued warrant.
Your Information Is Private — PYLUSD does not collect or share information about students' or families' immigration status.
Free Education for All — Every child has the right to a free public education, regardless of immigration status. This has been the law for over 40 years.
If you or your child have any concerns about immigration matters, our staff is here to support you. We also encourage you to ensure your emergency contact information is up to date in the Aeries Parent Portal so we can assist your family if needed. For help updating this information, please contact the front office.
The district website at www.pylusd.org/immigrationresources offers valuable immigration-related information tailored to families, schools, and community members, provided by the State of California and the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE). Additionally, it includes relevant PYLUSD Board Policies. The webpage will be updated regularly to reflect the most current information available.
PYLUSD and Brookhaven are committed to ensuring all students feel safe, valued, and supported. If you have questions or need help, please contact us at (714) 986-7110 or the Student Service Department at (714) 985-8670. Together, we’ll continue to build a positive and inclusive environment for every child in our community.
Sincerely,
Laura Fisher

School Choice Coming Soon!
The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) School Choice Transfer Request period for the 2025-26 school year is coming soon. During this time, parents of any current or incoming students who wish to attend a PYLUSD school other than their home school of residence for the 2025-26 school year should fill out a School Choice Transfer Request.
Additional Information About School Choice:
Transfer approvals are subject to space availability. In any situation where the number of requests exceeds the space available, approval of transfers will be determined by a random and unbiased selection process. Applications received during the school choice window are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
During the respective windows, interested families may complete a School Choice Transfer Request in the Aeries Parent Portal (instructions on the PYLUSD website) or receive in-person assistance completing the online request at the PYLUSD Student Services office located at 1301 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Placentia, CA 92870.
Please note that PYLUSD school sites do not distribute nor accept School Choice Transfer Requests. In addition, once a student has been approved to their school of choice, that school becomes their designated school of attendance until the highest grade at the site has been completed. Families with a school choice transfer MUST submit a new application for middle school. Current 8th graders attending a middle school on a School Choice Transfer must reapply if they wish to attend a PYLUSD high school other than their home school of residence.
Additional information about School Choice may be found online at www.pylusd.org/schoolchoice.
