Cumberland Thursday Folder
June 6th, 2024
Dear Cumberland Families,
Yesterday's Spring Sing: Cumberland Unplugged was an event to remember! Every element, from the thoughtfully planned program and vibrant artwork to the enthusiastic singing (showcasing increasing complexity year after year!), movement activities, and lively all-school dance, was simply spectacular. The perfectly-timed sunny weather, with a clear blue sky, created a picture-perfect backdrop for the event, making the sight of our students on stage truly unforgettable.
A heartfelt thank you to all of you, our amazing families, for attending and bringing extended family members! Your presence is a true testament to the strength of our school community. It means so much that so many of you make time in your busy schedules, many even taking time off work, to be a part of these special events. With full hearts, we also thank Ms. Cruz, Ms. Annin, Ms. Collins-Patzke, Mr. Morrill, Mr. Peterson and Ms. Mallmann for all of the dedication and time in making this possible.
Pre-ordered Yearbooks will be sent home with children today. If you ordered one and didn’t receive one, please email: jillian.gs.cooper@gmail.com, she will confirm the order. We have 32 extras that will be reserved for 5th grade in priority order. 5th graders may purchase one beginning this Friday for $21.00. On Monday, anyone may purchase a yearbook by coming into the office. The cost is $21.00 (cash or check) and the books are available oh a first come basis. No phone call orders will be taken.
The end of the year brings many special events:
This Friday is National Donut Day. Stop by the Great Room with your family in the morning and enjoy a donut, complements of our PTO. Doors open at 7am and will close at 8am.
Circle of Love: We would like to honor our 5th graders on their last Cumberland day by surrounding them with love. If your schedule allows, please join us on the playground Friday morning, June 14th. All sudents will report to the playground upon arrival on this morning. Teachers will meet classes outside on the playground at 7:47 and we will move into a giant circle on the outer edge of the blacktop. Fifth graders will walk an inner circle with those of us on the outside clapping (and cheering and whistling and generally making noise!) before they enter Cumberland for the last time as 5th graders. Adults of all age children are welcome to join in. 5th graders will sing their class song for the adults after students enter the building.
Camp Out, a field day like experience for 5K-5th grade children, is scheduled during their Encore times on our last full day of school on Thursday, June 13th. Students can wear their Cumberland Spring Sing t-shirts or a t-shirt in their grade level assigned color if they should so choose.
End of the Year Planning:
- Lost and Found: Everything will be on tables in the main entry starting tomorrow (Friday). Unclaimed items will be donated June 14th.
- Report Cards: Posted to Family Access June 12th by the end of the day
- 5th grade Chromebooks: Students who are going to WFB Middle School in the fall will keep their Chromebooks over the summer. Students who are not going to WFB next year need to turn in Chromebooks, cases and chargers to the office by June 13th.
See you for donuts tomorrow morning.
Warm regards,
Jayne Heffron and Rebecca Salomon

A concern about students wearing smart watches at the elementary and middle school levels has surfaced as an issue within the daily instructional environment during this year. Within the classroom environment, concerns about student’s social emotional health, and the lack of student interpersonal connections are all linked with smart watch/smart phone accessibility. Our elementary schools and middle school have worked to try to navigate smart watches as that device has increased the ability to communicate like a cell phone (since many students who don’t have a cell phone at least have a smart watch for basic communication).
We are having our elementary schools and middle school update their guidelines to reflect that students will be required to keep their smart watches turned off and in their backpacks/lockers in the 2024-2025 school year. As always, if parents need to contact their child for urgent matters at any point in the school day, they can contact the main office. Please feel free to reach out to your principal if you have any questions.

New Immunization Requirements: The Department of Health Services has updated immunization requirements for school-aged children. These requirements for school-age children will go into effect at the beginning of the 2024–2025 school year.
Changes include:
- Meningococcal (MenACWY-containing) vaccine has been added as a requirement for students entering seventh grade, and a booster dose for eligible students entering 12th grade.
- If a child has had chickenpox, a parent report of chickenpox disease is no longer acceptable for exemption from the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine requirement. Children must have a diagnosis of chickenpox from a qualified health care provider (M.D., D.O., N.P., or P.A.) to be exempt from this requirement, however existing exemption options still apply.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services website includes additional information. We encourage you to contact your healthcare provider if you have specific questions, or to schedule an appointment for a vaccine.
