S is for Safety
Hello Panther Parents,
My heart is still and will always be a little heavier with the tragedy that happened last week so close to home. Whenever something as shocking and tragic as this happens it impacts us all. For our New Prospect community, we understand that incidents like these are deeply unsettling and can cause anxiety for everyone. I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remains my highest priority as the principal.
We are up to date on practicing all our drills including a hard lock down. We even conducted this drill using our Centegix badge system, which was installed in every Fulton County school last year. Every staff member at New Prospect wears a Centegix badge which is a panic alert system that allows users to discreetly request help by pressing a button. If a staff member continues to press the button it sounds alarms in every room in the school instructing everyone to lock down. It also alerts local police and county leadership. If the button is pressed only 3 times, it alerts only school leadership for help (we use this if there is a medical emergency).
What you can do to help:
Review this information carefully.
Following the steps provided will help school officials, police officers, firefighters and other first responders do their jobs and focus on the safety of all involved.
Keep your child's emergency contact information up to date.
Inform your child's school immediately if your phone number, address or email address changes. You may be called and emailed during an emergency. Additionally, children will only be released to adults listed on the emergency information form.
Talk with your child
Take a few moments and discuss with your student about listening and following directions at all times and especially during an emergency. Click here for helpful information about Talking To Your Children About Violence.
Report any safety concerns
We need you to let us know about anything you see that concerns you.
I encourage you to talk with your children about their feelings and reassure them that their safety is of utmost importance. Teachers will not be discussing the incident that happened last week, but they will always be reinforcing our āSā in PAWS which stands for Safety. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Mrs. McLeod if your child needs emotional support.
Thank you!
Amy Lemons
