Parents, we need your help!
This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of our school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about our school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
To take the survey please visit http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.
Thank you for support!
P.S. - Thank you to the parents who've already completed the survey!
⏰ PLEASE REMEMBER TO BE ON TIME ⏰
We have noticed an increase in the number of students arriving late for school. We want your help in making sure students arrive on time and ready to learn. School begins at 7:50 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays and 8:50 am on Late Start Wednesdays. Therefore, any student who arrives after these times is considered late or tardy. Students may arrive between 7:30 am and 7:45 am (8:30 am to 8:45 am on Wednesdays) for breakfast or wait in the supervised hallways.
Starting next week, all doors will be closed promptly at 7:50 am (8:50 am on Wednesdays). After that, all students must be accompanied by their parent/guardian and enter through the Main Office. A five-minute grace period will be given to allow students to transition to class. However, students arriving in class after 7:55 am will be considered tardy.
Please help us make a change. Every minute late is a missed learning opportunity!

Erin's Law
Erin's Law is a vital piece of legislation designed to empower children with knowledge about child sexual abuse prevention and awareness. This age-appropriate curriculum, tailored to different grade levels, equips students with the skills to recognize, understand, and respond to potentially unsafe situations. It teaches them:
- Body safety and boundaries: Recognizing their own bodies and understanding personal privacy, appropriate touch, and unsafe situations.
- Identifying trusted adults: Knowing who they can confide in if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
- Safe communication: Learning how to express concerns and say "no" if something feels wrong.
We believe informed children are empowered children. Erin's Law will give our students the valuable tools they need to navigate their world with confidence and self-awareness. We'll be starting implementation soon, and parents will be kept informed with detailed information and resources.
In the meantime, we encourage you to:
- Start conversations at home: Talk to your children about body safety, trust, and appropriate touching in an open and age-appropriate way.
- Create a safe and open space: Let your children know they can always come to you with any concerns, worries, or uncomfortable experiences.
- Familiarize yourself with Erin's Law: Visit https://www.erinslawillinois.org/ for more information and resources.
Together, we can create a culture of safety and empower our children to make informed choices and protect themselves. Let's work hand-in-hand to keep our kids safe and happy!
A Note from the Nurses' Department 👩⚕️👩⚕️👩⚕️
- Cases of strep throat have been reported throughout Graves. Strep throat is an infection in the throat and tonsils. Testing for strep throat is done by swabbing the throat and testing for the bacteria. If diagnosed with strep throat, you may be prescribed antibiotics by your health care provider. See CDC education below for more information.
- Hand washing is the single most important way to prevent the spread of viruses and communicable diseases (like strep throat!) Use soap, warm water and disposable paper towels and wash your hands frequently.
Cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- “Once a week, take a peek” Please check your child’s hair weekly to prevent a lice outbreak in your home.
- Dental day will be February 20. There is still time to sign up- please stop by the office!
- Loyola mobile van will be at Graves/HMS on April 9th, 2024. This is the perfect time to get physicals done for new students and those entering kindergarten or 6th grade in the fall. Call the office for more information 😀
