A Note From Principal Jeff Brandt
Hello DHS Families,
From a school standpoint, December and the Holiday Season means there are many activities going on, including the last part of the first semester. Please help your students be Accountable, Respectful, and Engaged as we wind down the first half of the school year. Some courses will be concluding at the end of the semester, some continue for the entire year. Regardless of the length of the course, please make sure your students are providing their best effort, and showing evidence of the skills they have acquired throughout the semester.
It also means that Fall activities have concluded, and Winter activities are underway. I want to thank and congratulate all of our students, coaches, and advisors for their commitment and participation this fall. It is always exciting to watch our students participate in the activities that they love. Soon, our rinks, auditoriums, gyms, and mats will be filled with spectators and competitors again. Please remember to cheer loud (and appropriately!) for Dickinson High School!
Jeff Brandt,
Dickinson High School Principal

Student Newsletter Articles
This school year, we are excited to announce that we will include student-written articles in our monthly newsletters! Nareen Trent is a sophomore at Dickinson High School. She enthusiastically came to Principal Brandt with the idea of writing articles for the newsletter, and he was delighted to include her. Nareen is planning on making Journalism her future career, and DHS is happy to have her!
Keep an eye out for her articles throughout the school year!

Peer to Peer News
On September 21 and 22 Peer to Peer traveled to Grand Forks North Dakota to attend the Special Olympics of North Dakota awards banquet and the State Special Olympics soccer tournament. DHS Peer to Peer was able to watch and cheer on one of our very own, Tommy Peters, in the state tournament! Great Job Tommy!
At the Special Olympics Of North Dakota Awards Banquet, Dickinson High School Peer to Peer accepted the Unified Champions Award. DHS was nominated by a Dickinson Special Olympics representative. After being nominated, the state Special Olympics board members voted for who they think best represented unification in the school. A Champion School is classified as a program that promotes social inclusion, accepting environments, and whole school inclusion. This award was a great honor for our program and our school stating that we provide the best opportunities for all people with various ability levels.

DHS Girls Wrestling
The season is officially underway! We had over 50 girls registered at the start and are growing in numbers each week. Our first year in 2022, we had 11 girls. In our second season we grew to 24.
The sport is expanding at an astronomical rate across the country and the trend is true for us here at DHS!
The participation numbers are not the only celebration. We moved into the yellow building this fall, and for the first time have room for two full mats! We are so grateful for the administrations commitment to helping us house and invest in the young ladies that are buying into the program and what the sport offers.
We compete for the first time the weekend of November 23rd at the Minot Early Bird Tournament. It will be great to see where we are at and come home to work on getting where we believe we can go!

12/10 Mandan Dual @ DHS
12/13 Carrington Tournament
End Of Semester Finals
The last day of first semester is January 10th. All students are required to take final exams as there no longer is a final test exemption policy based on grades and/or attendance. The instructors will choose the final date for each class and communicate this with their students. Teachers have the autonomy to decide what this assessment looks like and could consist of a unit test, project, presentation, activity, etc.
If a student does not take the final exam, he/she will be given a zero for that assignment. Students who have already lost credit are still required to take the final. Per Mr. Brandt, they should be attending class and graded accordingly.
Semester grades will be posted to student’s transcripts by 4pm, January 17th.
SkillsUSA
We had 26 students from SWCTE/RACTC participate in Fall Leadership for Skills USA including 4 state officers on Monday, November 18th in Valley City. Our officer team included Bailey Binstock, Naomi Lefor, Amarah Olheiser, and Ella Sickler.
This year's sessions included Paving Your Path with Golden Path Solutions/Patrick Mineer, Igniting Your Potential/Dr. Aberle focused on first impressions and professionalism, Teamwork building with the Air National Guard, Expert Panels specific industries, and Ace Your Interview/State Officer Team. The students networked with several other schools and learned lots of new things.

Academic Learning Center
The Academic Learning Center (ALC) is available all day long to provide students with assistance in subject areas in which they are struggling, or if they are absent and just need assistance with the material they missed. They are also available to monitor tests they missed because of an absence. The students just need to communicate with their teacher so that they know to put the test in the ALC.
The ALC is open daily at 7:40am and during the lunch period. The gates are closed at this time but just let a staff member know that help is needed in the ALC and they will let the student through. They are also open after school until 4:00pm for assistance and make-up testing.
