COMMUNITY UPDATE
Hello North Rockland Families,
Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of hosting our seventh annual Ed Camp professional development event at Fieldstone Middle School. This participant-driven, collaborative experience allows educators to share knowledge and insights, fostering a rich environment of learning and networking. The absence of a pre-set at EdCamp agenda enables attendees to address their specific needs, resulting in a dynamic exchange of ideas.
Professional development is a part of every teacher’s career. It provides an opportunity for educators to grow their knowledge and sharpen their skills, which can lead to better student outcomes. In North Rockland, we know our students thrive in the classroom when our teachers are fully trained on the latest curriculum and instructional methods. I thank everyone who participated and contributed to the success of EdCamp 2024!
A big “congratulations” to the 148 2024 North Rockland High School National Honor Society inductees. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character and service. Your hard work and dedication have earned you this esteemed recognition and I am proud of you for achieving this milestone.
We also wrapped up our final college and career fair at the high school this fall, which will be the last until late spring. I hope this event provided valuable insights for our students as they navigate their future educational paths.
Additionally, I commend our high school NJROTC cadets on their successful Area Manager Inspection this week. Their dedication to mastering marching formations and drills truly paid off, as the inspection and drill teams' performances were executed with exceptional pride and precision. Congratulations to the NRHS NJROTC cadets on passing your inspection!
As we enter Red Ribbon Week, let us unite as a community to take a visible stand against drugs and underage drinking. This awareness campaign, which runs from October 23 to 31, reminds us of our commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. I would also like to highlight that we have Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASACs) in our schools. These trained professionals provide substance use disorder counseling and clinical care services, helping students understand and address addiction in a supportive environment.
Our students excel in various aspects, from citizenship and academics to their exemplary representation through NJROTC and their commitment to drug prevention and mental health awareness. We are also witnessing a historic moment for many of our sports teams, as they have qualified for playoff games. Good luck Red Raiders!
Lastly, I want to share our cautious optimism regarding the upcoming opening of the Hammond Road circle in the coming weeks. While this construction project is not initiated by our school district, we recognize the impact it has had on our community, including our students and families. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time, and we hope the new circle will help ease the traffic challenges we've all faced. As always, I extend my gratitude to our local law enforcement for their partnership during this time. Thanks again for your patience through this major traffic headache.
Reminder: October 26th is the Town of Haverstraw 2024 Halloween Festival! View the PDF below for more information.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.

#PointsOfPride - Pink Out Fridays
Throughout October, our school community has united for "Pink Out" Fridays, showing support and raising awareness for breast cancer. We are incredibly proud of the participation from both students and staff, who have donned their pink attire to stand together in this important cause. Your enthusiasm and commitment are helping to create a supportive environment for those in our community affected by breast cancer, reminding everyone that they are not alone in this journey.
