Step 3: Memorize your poem and practice saying your poem OUT LOUD!
Step 4: Record yourself reciting your poem. Make sure to introduce yourself, the poem you are saying, along with the author. Here's what the judges will be looking for in your video:
- Presence: Are you professional, prepared, and confident.
- Voice and Articulation: Can we hear and understand everything you say?
- Interpretation & Evidence of Understanding: As you deliver the poem, are you delivering it with the intent of the poem? Is it clear you understand what you are saying?
- Accuracy: Are you memorized correctly? Word for word?
Step 5: Submit your video to jsimmons@lexington1.net by Jan. 10. You may upload it to Google drive and share with me or email. Have troubles uploading? Swing by room 708 (Black Box Theatre) for troubleshooting help!

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up at GHS
Dear GHS Parent,
This is a friendly reminder to parents and students that student drop-off and pick-up are in two designated areas on the Gilbert High School campus:
STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BE DROPPED OFF OR PICKED UP IN THE BUS AREA!
1. Student parking lot off of Two-Notch Road. There is a circular drive to drop off kids at the student entrance and is also a more ideal place to pick up in the afternoons because of space.
2. Main entrance parking lot off of Main Street near the marquee. This is a small circular drive that can also be used for student drop-off and pick-up. However, it is not an ideal place to pick-up in the afternoon due to the size of the area, but can serve that purpose if you are patient enough to wait. I would suggest using the student parking lot to pick-up in the afternoon. I understand that it is busy, but it does clear out quickly.
Please note that the faculty parking area and bus loop is not a designated place to pick up students. Please do not drop-off or pick-up students in the faculty parking lot/bus loop area. Recently, we have observed cars coming to the bus loop and faculty parking area to drop-off and pick-up students. That is unsafe for students and our employees.
Parking Reminder!
