HTPS EXCELLENCE SPOTLIGHT

MESSAGE FROM MR. TOOMEY - SUPERINTENDENT
As we turn the calendar to 2025, we’ve hit the ground running and are approaching the halfway point of our school year, which is hard to believe. We remain committed to achieving our district goals and maximizing each student’s learning experience in their ongoing quest for excellence. Our teachers and staff are continuing their own professional development, growing as lifelong learners, and strengthening their skills to support our students. We are grateful for the many dedicated educators we have in the district and appreciate all their efforts.
With the support of the Board of Education, we’re also actively evaluating district operations to identify areas for improvement, as well as updating and revamping procedures so that we remain both efficient and effective, putting us in the best position to meet the needs of today's students. We appreciate your continued partnership and investment in your children's educational experiences.
On another note, I wish a Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate as we welcome the Year of the Snake. May this new year bring wisdom, growth, and success to our Hanover Township Public Schools community!

Welcome Back Assembly - Starting off the New Year Strong!
The Mountview Road School Community kicked off the new calendar year with its annual Welcome Back Assembly. Students from Grades 1-5 were enlisted to share ideas about what a great rest of the school year looks and sounds like. They did a great job!
Junior Achievement - Empowering Financial Literate Students
Whippany Park High School Students visited Mountview's 5th Grade in late December as part of the Junior Achievement Program, a global non-profit organization designed to teach students about financial literacy, work-readiness and entrepreneurship. Pictured are former MTV students, now in high school, teaching our current Grade 5 students.
Grade 4 STEM Project - It's electric!
4th Graders sharpened their STEM skills through a homeroom-based, hands-on project aimed to spark creativity and introduce basic concepts of circuits and electricity in a fun and practical way. Students were challenged to design and create a miniature room using a shoebox. They learned to incorporate circuits, lightbulbs, and switches to light up their creations, simulating real-world electrical systems.
L.E.A.D. - A Partnership with Hanover's Finest
We are happy to partner with the Hanover Township Police Department to educate our 5th Grade students, district-wide, about drug, bullying and violence awareness through the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) Too Good program. Pictured is Detective Edward Zakrzewski, one of the instructors, with Mrs. Brennan's 5th Graders.
PTA Cultural Arts Assembly
Author and Cartoonist, Mike Dawson, visited on January 24, thanks to the generosity of the MTV PTA and their Cultural Arts Program! The presenter combined an educational, multimedia presentation with live-drawing and cartooning demonstrations, illustrating how cartooning is about using pictures to tell stories. The students were engaged and entertained and left with some good take-aways to strengthen their own creative processes.

Honoring Dr. MLK Jr.
The 4th Grade and 2nd Grade classes joined together to learn about Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous "I Have a Dream" speech. 4th Grade students read aloud the speech as second graders listened to his powerful words. They discussed his dream, and also thought about their own hopes for the world as each student had the chance to share their very own dream. These dreams are posted in the front lobby of Salem Drive School for all to see.
