STATE TESTING PROTOCOL REGARDING CELL PHONES
State testing is just around the corner, please note the following protocol regarding cell phones during the testing window:
Cellular, messaging, or wireless devices have the capability of recording, reproducing, or transmitting secure test content. For this reason, students’ cell phones, smart watches, pagers, iPods®, tablets, and other non-approved, web-enabled communication devices must be turned off and kept out-of-view and reach until the test session is complete (for all students in that test session). Once all secure test materials have been collected, accounted for, and secured, these devices may be returned to students. It is important that school administrators and staff establish and communicate this policy to students as use of these devices during state assessments will result in the students test being invalidated.
IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION CHANGES
Immunization Changes for 2020-2021 School Year
We want your child to start school on the first day of school. Please make sure your child’s immunizations are up to date before you register your child for the 2020-2021 school year. You can avoid the back-to-school rush in August by contacting your child’s doctor now to get the required vaccinations.
Beginning August 2020:
1. Children will not be able to start school unless they are in compliance with Washington state immunization requirements. https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Schools/Immunization
2. Medically verified immunization records will be required to complete the certificate of immunization status card for any newly enrolled student. https://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/Immunization/SchoolandChildCare/RuleChanges
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, 2020 - 2021
REGISTRATION HAS BEGUN!
To register for kindergarten, bring proof of birth date and officials doctor or state immunization records to your neighborhood school.
We recommend parents register their children by May 1st to ensure that you and your child receive an invitation to attend the kindergarten visitation program this spring.
NOTE: Any child who will be five (5) years old on or before August 31, 2020, is eligible to enter kindergarten this fall.
SCHOOL CLOSING EVENT
Current and former students, parents, staff members, administrators and community members are invited to say goodbye to the school, which has served the community since 1962.

IF YOUR STUDENT IS ILL PLEASE KEEP THEM HOME
Just a reminder, if your student is vomiting and has diarrhea, and/or a fever they must remain out of school until it’s been at a full 24 hours since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea, and they must be fever free for 24 hours without temperature lowering medication (like Tylenol, acetaminophen, Motrin, ibuprofen, etc).
Talk to your child about using good hand washing with plenty of soap and warm water, for at least 30 seconds of hand scrubbing. Wash every time before eating, after using the bathroom, and playing outside.
SUPPLEMENTAL LEVY
Supplemental levy on the ballot this February
Changes in state funding for education have contributed to a multimillion-dollar shortage in Vancouver Public Schools’ budget. To address the shortage, the district is asking voters to consider approving a levy on Feb. 11, 2020.
Supplemental education and operations levy facts
- If approved by voters, the supplemental levy for education and operations would maintain current levels of programs and services in VPS.
- The new levy would supplement the educations and operations levy passed in 2019.
- The levy would pay for locally funded teacher positions that maintain smaller class sizes.
- All schools in the district would benefit from the levy.
- The levy would help schools continue to improve student achievement and graduation rates.
- Without revenue provided by a supplemental levy, the district would face shortfalls that require budget cuts and layoffs.
- Supplemental levy collection would begin in 2021.
- The estimated rates per thousand are:
○ 43 cents in 2021
○ 41 cents in 2022
○ 40 cents in 2023
- If voters approve the supplemental levy, the 2021 rate combined with the current education and operations levy would be $1.95 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
- The supplemental levy will appear on the ballot in the special election on Feb. 11, 2020.

Please be sure to 'like' and 'follow' our OFFICIAL school Facebook page. There is more than one page out there - look for our logo to be sure you have the right one. We will post about our school regularly.
WE HAVE GONE ELECTRONIC
Please be sure to update the office with your current email address. Most of our correspondence, for example: schedule changes, early release information, etc. will only go home electronically. We will no longer be printing hard copies. It is also the quickest way to reach a parent or guardian in the event of an emergency. If you are not sure of the email you have on file with us please contact the office and we would be happy to check it for you.
CHANGE IN LAST MINUTE GOING HOME PLANS
The Office CAN NOT take changes over the phone. Plans need to be made before your student comes to school and a written note signed by the Parent or Guardian must be received.
To insure we are able to continue keeping all students safe during the "go home" process at the end of the day teachers and the office need to know changes at the start of the day. If you are wanting your student to ride a different bus, or go home a different way, we need this in writing. Phone calls cannot be accepted for this.
NO NOTE = YOUR STUDENT WILL GO HOME ON THEIR NORMALLY SCHEDULED PLAN
SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATION
Please be prepared for school closures due to inclement weather or other emergency situations. Depending on the circumstances, schools could be closed for one day or several days. Schools could open two hours later than usual or close earlier than scheduled. To find out if schools are closed:
• Check “Emergency Closure Information” on the district website: www.vansd.org.
• Check the Flash Alert website: www.flashalert.net(select Portland/ Vancouver area, then Clark County Schools, then Vancouver School District).
• Sign up for free FlashAlert text and/or email messages. You must renew this service each year. Both websites listed above will take you to the Emergency
Messages page for Vancouver School District. Find “Emergency Alerts,” click “Subscribe” and follow directions.
• Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to see our school closure posts:
www.facebook.com/VancouverPublicSchools and https://twitter.com/ VancouverSD.
• Listen to your local radio and television stations.
• Call the School Closure Information Line at 313-1401.
If schools are closed, the main school phone numbers will allow you to connect to the School Closure Information Line. The decision to close or delay the opening of school due to snow or icy roads usually is made early in the morning of that school day. If weather becomes threatening during the school day, schools may close early. If schools are closed, all after-school and evening school activities are canceled for that day.
