Parent Night: Preparing for the Future
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent Night Workshop on Monday, November 18th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This workshop will be presented by UC Irvine and is designed to help parents better understand the high school-to-college transition, covering crucial topics such as A-G requirements, financial aid, and important deadlines.
Please Note: This session will be conducted in English only. A separate workshop in Spanish is scheduled for December 4th.
This workshop will be an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get the tools to support your student’s path to success!
Dangers of Vaping: What Parents Need to Know in 2024
This school year, vaping and tobacco use among youth and young adults are still a serious concern. Every day, new discreet vaping products enter the market. They are camouflaged as common household objects, video games, toys, and school supplies and are meant to sneak past adults.
Behind the enticing flavors and flashy colors of e-cigarettes are harmful chemicals and nicotine addiction.
Join us to learn the essentials to help kids avoid or quit vaping and other nicotine use.
Our virtual presentation Dangers of Vaping: What Parents Need to Know in 2024 will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 3:00PM Pacific Time. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Understand and recognize tobacco industry tactics targeting youth
- Explain the dangers of nicotine e-cigarettes/vapes, non-nicotine vapes, and other new tobacco products
- Know the steps to protect youth and how to advise others to get involved
- Know how to take action in your own communities
Make sure to register for the event on November 19. This event is FREE and open to all, including parents, people who work with youth, and others. The recording will be available to all registrants after the webinar.
CalKIDS College Savings Program
Did you know? In 2022, the State of California launched the California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) with one clear mission: make it easier for children to save for their future education.
Through the CalKIDS program, students and families in California have the opportunity to start their college and career savings journey in just a few, simple steps. This program is a unique children’s savings account (CSA) that provides each child born in California and eligible low-income public school students with up to $1,500 for college and career training.
California State PTA is partnering with CalKIDS to spread the word about this funding opportunity with our members, schools, and families. If you are a student, parent, or school teacher - this call is especially important for you.
