From the Desk of Mr. Cannon.......
Every April AASD families have an opportunity through the family engagement survey to provide feedback to the district on how things are going at the site and district level. Please see below for results, celebrations, and a focus area for Columbus moving forward. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete these surveys as it gives us valuable insight on how to improve our services as well as know what is working well. In Spring of 2023 twelve people took the survey and in spring of 2024 eighteen people took the survey. The lowest possible score is a 1 (strongly disagree) and the highest possible score is a 5 (strongly agree).
- Top Two Composite Scores:
- My family is treated with respect at this school (4.24)
- The staff members at this school demonstrate a genuine concern for my child (4.17)
- Lowest Two Composite Scores:
- My child has every opportunity to be successful at this school (3.50)
- I regularly receive feedback from school staff on how well my child is learning (3.61)
Thank you to those of you who completed the survey; this feedback provides us with direction on how to move forward and we will continue to reach out to you to always find ways to keep getting better, together. Our staff will work on ways to stay in communication with you throughout the year for progress updates on academic and social performance, and we are working on a culture climate reboot as a staff to ensure every opportunity is provided for our students to reach their potential and looking forward to hearing more from you on how we can improve.
Please note that our parent teacher conferences have been moved to November this year as we will review first quarter progress and set goals for the mid-year. We still have a busy month ahead of us as we transition into fall and thankfully cooler temperatures in our buildings.
Thank you!
Joel

Free and Reduced Application for Meals and School Fees Application
Please fill out the below application for free and reduced price school meals and school fees. You only need to submit one application per household, even if your children attend more than one school in the Appleton Area School District.
You can apply for free and reduced meals/fees through the Infinite Campus portal or with a paper application that can be turned in to your school or the Food Service Office.
There are two forms that must be completed if you wish to have your $30 school fee waived:
Please ensure that you are also completing the additional form for sharing information with other programs. This form allows the District Food Service program to share your status with your school office, which may lead to a waiver of fees in the following areas: Elective Course Material Fees, Co-Curricular / Participation Fees, and Instrumental Rental Fees.

Important Message About Birthday and Other Celebration Treats
Please do not bring in snacks/treats for birthdays or other celebrations. The AASD Board Policy (458) regarding Student Wellness was updated in 2018 in order to align our school wellness procedures with best practices. This change is to focus on honoring students through more inclusive practices that are not only more aligned to the updated policy, but are practices identified as being best for overall student health and wellness. Policy 458 reads:
D. Recognition for Special Occasion Without Treats
Recognitions for special occasions (birthdays, holidays, etc.) during the school day (starting at midnight the day before through a half hour after students are dismissed for the day) will NOT include students bringing in snacks/treats from outside of the District for other students and will instead take place through non-food practices.
