Important Reminders About Drop-Off and Parking at School
As we start this new school year, I want to remind everyone about the importance of keeping students safe during drop-off and pick-up times.
Field Elementary is grateful for the hospitality and support of the church next door over the years, including hosting a number of student events. We regret any confusion about their support and look forward to working in partnership with them.
Our parents/guardians have used the parking lot at the church over the years, and in Fall 2023 PUSD entered into a formal agreement to use the north parking lot at a cost of $2,000 per month. Given fiscal constraints, the rate of $24,000 per year is not sustainable in the long term.
As you know, parking is very limited on our campus, including spaces for staff. We are working on a comprehensive plan that prioritizes student safety; drop-off for preschool, TK, and first-grade students; parking for staff; and guest parking for parents/guardians and other visitors.
We are meeting with church leadership to help determine the path forward. We will also schedule a parent/family tea with the principal and guests from the Superintendent’s Leadership Team to hear your perspectives. I will send you information about the tea as soon as possible.
In the meantime, here are a few important guidelines to follow:
1. Drop-off and pick-up are at the front driveway of the school only. Drop-off is from 8:25 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. Students may not be dropped off before 8:25 a.m. because there is no staff to supervise. Students enrolled in LEARNs morning care can be dropped off at the lower gate by the bungalows at 7 a.m.
2. Please do not park in the church lot next door. The church parking lot is for church use only, and we need to respect that space. If you wish to walk your child to school, there is street parking available on Sierra Madre Blvd. and surrounding streets.
3. Follow all traffic rules when dropping off and picking up your children. Please obey signs and traffic laws, avoid double parking, and do not drop your child off in the median in the middle of the street. Always drive carefully on Sierra Madre Blvd. This is a 25 mph zone. The safety of our students is our top priority, and it’s essential that all parents do their part.
4. Respect our neighbors. We have received reports of inappropriate behavior toward the pastor and staff of the church next door. This is unacceptable. We ask that all parents treat everyone in our community with kindness and respect.
Let’s work together to create a safe and positive environment for our children, especially as they arrive at school each morning.
Thank you for your cooperation in making this a great school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Charlene Tucker
Principal
Drop-Off Procedures
Drop-off in the morning is from 8:25a.m. to 8:40 a.m. with adult supervision.
The first school bell is at 8:40 a.m. Classes start at 8:45 a.m.
Carline drop-off is in the driveway at the front of the school only. Do not exit your car. Allow your child to exit the car safely, then drive on to allow other parents to safely drop off their children.
The staff parking lot is for faculty and staff only.
Please don’t park in front of the dumpster. Parking in front of the dumpster has caused a situation where our trash cannot be picked up for the week. This is unhealthy and unsanitary.
Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal procedures are in place for the safety of our students. Classes are dismissed through Simple Dismissal and all student numbers will be distributed by the end of this week. This system ensures that all students are accounted for.
