Parent/Caregiver Wellness Education:
Follow up to February 26th Lynn Lyons Presentation and Resource Fair
Thank you to all parents/caregivers and educators who attended the Lynn Lyons presentation and community resource fair on February 26, 2025. We hope you left with knowledge about community resources and helpful strategies for supporting your children. A huge thank you to Healthy KP Substance Use Prevention Coalition (healthykp.org), for their financial support to make this possible. It was a pleasure for me to partner with Karen Becker, Healthy KP Program Coordinator, to host this event. Healthy KP not only funded our speaker, but also provided wonderful (and healthy!) snacks! Thank you to all the resource providers who paired their information with great enthusiasm!
Here are some takeaways from Lynn's presentation:
Teaching and modeling skills that promote the opposite of anxiety:*
- tolerate and normalize discomfort
- emotional management to allow problem solving
- retrain the brain by actively doing, falling and succeeding. Stepping in rather than eliminating and avoiding.
- value and promote flexibility ("What is the unexpected thing that happened to you today? How did you handle it?"
- do things when you don't feel like it
To reinforce strategies for dealing with anxiety and related related emotional challeges, you may want to access Lynn's free weekly podcast available at Flusterclux.com and the usual podcast access points, or visit her website at lynnlyons.com.
