Kristin Roadman, an alumna of the MCH program at Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health, is the featured author in the Health Equity Edition of MCH Leads for March. In her blog entry, Kristin reflects on her experiences collaborating with the Maternity Care Coalition (MCC), the Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children, and Thriving PA. She shares insights into her efforts to support advocacy initiatives aimed at launching a Perinatal Psychiatry Access Program in Pennsylvania, all while applying MCH Competencies 1 (MCH Knowledge Base/Context) and 7 (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility). “This experience helped me further realize how I can use my passion and interest in writing as a tool to advocate for critical policies aimed at promoting health equity and enhancing quality of life for individuals.” Learn more about Kristin’s contributions here!

MCH Competency Corner
Each month, we highlight MCH Leadership competencies for students to learn more about.
MCH Leadership Competency #12: Policy
MCH leaders need to possess policy skills, particularly in changing and competitive economic and political environments. MCH leaders understand the resources necessary to improve health and well-being for children, youth, families, and communities, as well as the need to be able to articulate those needs in the context of policy development and implementation.
A public policy is a law, regulation, procedure, administrative action, or voluntary practice of government that affects groups or populations and influences resource allocation.
