Bear Trail
JBMS Newsletter - October 11, 2024
From the Desk of Mr. Yelvington
Bear Nation,
Happy Fall Break! I don't recall ever having a fall break. Please enjoy this time with family and we will see your Bears back on Wednesday October 16th.
Some reminders about morning drop off.
- Tutorials – drop off before 8:00 AM. Teachers pick students up at 8:00. After 8:00 you will not be let in the building.
- 8:25 – This is when teachers come on duty and the time we open the doors to allow students to enter the building.
- Students dropped off before 8:25 are unsupervised, so we ask that students stay in the car until we open the doors.
- Crossing the Street- some students, when they are dropped off early, are walking across the street to the businesses to buy snacks, etc. As more businesses spring up it will be even more tempting. Please remind your children that once they have been dropped off, they need to stay on campus.
- Teacher Parking Lot - bikes and scooters should not be ridden through the teacher's parking lot. These should be walked on the sidewalk. Parents are not permitted to drop off or pick up students from this lot, only through the front circle drive.
While the accident this morning occurred off campus, it is a reminder that both our students and drivers should stay attentive and travel cautiously through the school zone area. The driver did stop and assist the officers, the parent was quickly on the scene. We are thankful for EMS's quick response and that student will make a full recovery. If your child witnessed the incident, we have counseling support available. Lastly, we ask that our community continue to partner with us to keep our students safe by being mindful of our walkers and bike riders.
Be safe during this fall break and we will see you next week!

NWEA MAP Computer-Adaptive Assessments
Beginning this year, students in Fort Bend ISD will complete NWEA MAP computer-adaptive assessments three times a year to gain information about what students know and what they are ready to learn next. MAP also gives insight into how students are growing academically, allowing you to track your student's progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Families will have access to their child's results after each testing window. NWEA MAP is replacing Renaissance 360. For more information, visit the NWEA Family Toolkit or contact your child’s teacher. NWEA Family Toolkit: https://www.nwea.org/family-toolkit/

Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month - October
: There is a growing threat to the health and safety of our youth that we want to bring to your attention. Fentanyl poisoning is the leading cause of death for people ages 18 to 45 in the U.S. Fentanyl is a man-made, Schedule II narcotic that has reached a growing number of communities of all sizes across Texas and has impacted so many lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), within the last two years, teen overdose deaths related to Fentanyl have tripled. We ask that you take time to talk with your child regarding the facts and dangers of Fentanyl Poisoning.

Whole Child Health Initiative
Dear Parents,
I want to draw your attention to the FBISD Whole Child Health Webpage. We include this in all of our newsletters but it can easily be overlooked. This page has many different resources for students and families to access. For example links to See Something Share Something, 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline which is for 24 hour/7 days a week immediate emotional support, and 211 Get connected with help for many other needs people may have. You will also find tabs that have resources for students and parents where information about talking to a counselor is recommended along with information about our mental health partners.
