Autism Awareness Month
Mrs. Dufrain sent out a message last week to staff regarding autism. Below that are some pictures as some of our Best Buddies passed out a treat as part of our awareness program.
In honor of April being Autism Awareness Month, I wanted to share some resources you may find helpful as you “encounter” students with Autism…teaching them, meeting them throughout the school, seeing them/interacting with them in your community and in your families. I love the saying, “If you’ve met one person with Autism, you’ve met one person with Autism”. I mean, isn’t everyone UNIQUE? Isn’t every single person talented, challenged, lovable, frustrating, imperfect, special? My best advice is to treat students/people with disabilities like you should treat everyone…with kindness, grace, and patience. I hope you find some of the information below helpful. Thank you, all, for being the kind of school community where students AND adults learn, grow, and love. As a “thank you”, Access has a small treat that we will bring around in the next day or so.
Grand Champions - Len Mattiace Stop the Bullying Campaign
Our awesome Best Buddies club was recognized as Grand Champions in this spring's campaign! Their service project provided snacks for the children at The Homeless Coalition. We highlighted this project in SR News about a month ago. The GRMS Best Buddies received $1000 as a reward, as well as the comfort inknowing they are making a difference in the lives of some young people in need. Below is a picture of many of the Best Buddies at this morning's ceremony.
