WBSD Way Breakfast Welcomes Businesses
Recently, the West Bend School District WBSD Way team hosted a “thank you” breakfast for community partners. The event was held at East and West High Schools. Community partners of the WBSD Way are organizations and businesses that support and recognize student success within the community.
Catered by the culinary students at East and West, the breakfast also featured Badger students singing songs from their upcoming musical, Moana. Thank you to representatives of the following businesses and organizations for attending:

Reminders: Staff Award Nominations Accepted; Summer School Registration
March 21 is the deadline for nominations for the Rolfs Educational Foundation Awards and the Support Employee of the Year Awards for employees of the West Bend School District. Community members, staff, and students can nominate an employee for an award to recognize their outstanding contributions. The nomination form is on our website.
Summer school registration opens for students in current grades 8-12 on Monday, March 10 and for current grades 4K-7 on Monday, March 17. All registrations are completed using Skyward. More details on summer school are on the website.
Volunteer Center Champions of Change Nominations
The Volunteer Center of Washington County is asking for nominations for Champions of Change, its annual event honoring the volunteers changing the community. The event will recognize and honor 11 award winners in various categories for their dedication and commitment to Washington County. To make a nomination, go to the website.
Job Openings with the West Bend Schools
There are several job openings at various schools within the West Bend School District. Check out WBSDhr.org for details on aide positions available at Badger, Silverbrook, and other schools, as well as coaching and nutrition positions.
School Board News
Recap of February 17 Meeting
The West Bend School Board held a regular meeting on February 17. The board approved the consent agenda with Minutes of the February 3, 2025 Regular Board Meeting and Executive Session, contracts, resignations, retirements, Bond Underwriter Agreement, Financial Advisor Agreement, Agreement Modification with Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) to Outline Phases for Four Projects, and Early College Credit Program (ECCP) Course Requests.
Reports were given on compensation, Winter Assessment Results and Foreshadowing Spring Assessments, Curriculum Committee Report, and Superintendent's Report. And a discussion was held on bond issuance.

Student and Staff Achievements
East Student Wins Scholastic Art Awards
Vincent Zirbes, a junior at East High School, won several Gold Key Art Awards through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Vincent submitted three drawings and one ceramic piece, and won a Gold Key award for all each entry. Vincent received his awards at a ceremony at the Milwaukee Art Museum on February 8 and his pieces will be on display there until the end of the month. Next, Vincent's artwork will move on to the national awards level.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. There were more than 2,600 student entries for the state of Wisconsin and just 150 Gold Key awards given out.
Members of Boys Swim and Dive Going to State
The WIAA Boys Division 1 Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday, February 22 will feature a number of East and West Co-op team members. In fact, all the swimmers had their best ever times in every single event at the WIAA Sectionals meet held last week. In total, there are nine student athletes going to state in nine events and 12 entries total. State qualifiers include:

Dawson Walters - 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly
Weston Keppert - 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke

Boys Snowboarding Team Takes Third
At the WIARA State Championships last weekend in La Crosse, the East and West Co-op Boys Snowboarding team took third. In addition, Gavin Schauble was second in slalom.
Students Qualify for SkillsUSA State Competition
The West Bend High Schools SkillsUSA team had a spectacular showing at its recent regional competition at Northcentral Technical College. The following students qualified for the state competition in the spring:

West Volleyball Players Earns Academic Honor
The Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association has awarded girls on the West High School Volleyball team 2024–2025 All-Academic Individual awards. To qualify, players must demonstrate active participation on the team and complete the fall semester with a 3.5 GPA or higher. There were five players that maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA: Maddie Abel, Kylee Altendorf, Avah Banks, Amelia Dubey, Paige Guse, and Breleigh Ustruck.
Altendorf is MaxPreps Player of the Year
West senior Kylee Altendorf was recently named the MaxPreps volleyball player of the year. She was the 27th ranked player in the state. Kylee achieved the career milestones of 1,000 digs, 1,000 kills, and 1,000 service receive passes while a Spartan and was named First Team All North Shore Conference, Prep Dig Player of the Week, AVCA All Region Team, and WVCA All State Honorable Mention. Kylee will attend UW-Whitewater and play volleyball.
