Cereal Box Kindness Challenge
During the annual Great Kindness Challenge in February 2025, Sandshore Elementary School community collected over 150 boxes of cereal, showcasing their dedication to kindness and generosity. We then donated this collection to our local Mt. Olive Food Pantry, with the hope of making a positive impact on families in our local community.
No Place For Hate Student Committee Field Trip
On March 14, 2025, members of our Sandshore No Place for Hate student committee attended the Diversity Council on Global Education and Citizenship’s 2025 Elementary & Middle School Leadership Conference at Kean University in Union, NJ. The event featured a keynote speaker Amya Meekins, a New Jersey-based teen entrepreneur, rapper, and author of The Life of a Teenage Girl. Our NPFH students eagerly worked alongside peers from other Mt. Olive schools to discuss, brainstorm, and plan ideas for improving their school communities' culture and climate.
Sandshore Shields of Honor
Throughout the year we will be recognizing students who display the core SEL competencies of self control, self awareness, safety, teamwork, leadership, and empathy.
Stay tuned for our April recipients.
Notes from our School Nurse, Mrs. Suzanne Herbst
National School Nurse Day
Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week.
National Nurses Week is May 6-12 each year.
“By investing in and recognizing the contributions school nurses make to student well-being, schools can create healthier learning environments where all children can succeed academically and develop into healthy adults who contribute positively to society. Investing in school nursing is not only about fostering a healthier future for children, but also strengthening communities for generations to come.” JAMA Health Forum. 2025;6(1):e250116. doi:10.1001/jamahealthforum.2025.0116
Do you know what school nurses do everyday? We do a lot more than you probably realize! It is definitely not just bandaids and ice packs. Please take a moment to learn more to help me celebrate my 28th year as a school nurse in my 31 years as a nurse!
Thank you, Suzanne Herbst, M.Ed, BSN, RN, CSN

Notes from the Nurse
We have had a very long cold and flu season this school year. We have seen lots of stuffy and runny noses! Here are some tips from the Allergy and Asthma Network on how to best blow your nose and how to teach children to blow their nose!
