Rare Solar Eclipse - Beck Vikings are Getting Ready!
Beck students and staff enjoyed the rare solar spectacle this week - a near total eclipse. Students wore their solar glasses and got to 'peak' at what was happening in the sky!
2nd Graders Enjoy a 'Step Back in Time' with a Visit to Troy Historical Museum!
4th Grade Students Have Some "Special Visitors" this Week!
"The Reptarium came to visit us. We learned about and held snakes, iguanas, lizards, turtles, and alligators. We also saw a tarantula's molted shell. My favorite was holding the snake because it felt like scales," said Nina Lyjak. "Holding the alligator was my favorite because it felt boney and slippery" commented Isabella Bartolomeo.
MSTEP Testing Begins for 3rd & 5th Graders Next Week!
What is the MSTEP?
All students enrolled in Michigan schools in grades 3-8 and 11 will take the M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress) assessment. The M-STEP measures your student's growth and progress on the Michigan Academic Standards. Those standards are available at this web site: www.Michigan.gov/academicstandards
Students in grades 3, 4 and 6 will be tested in English Language Arts (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and mathematics. Fifth graders will be tested in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. All grade levels will be taking their test online. They will be assigned specific dates and times to take the M-STEP during the April 8 – May 17, 2024, online testing window. The M-STEP will provide an accurate view of your child’s achievement levels and learning needs to help us identify areas where we can improve instruction and teaching.
How Can Parents Help?
As parents/guardians, you play an important role in your child’s academic success.
We are asking for your help to ensure he/she is prepared for this new online assessment series. Here is what you can do:
Encourage your child to approach the M-STEP with a positive attitude.
Ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before, has a good breakfast and comes to school on time each day.
Review the UCS Electronic Device Use Protocol for Statewide Testing.
Your child’s attendance is vital to his/her achievement. In addition, full attendance is necessary for our school to meet state participation requirements.
