Spring Concert Season
Our Spring Concert season began with our 7th & 8th Grade Musicians performing on May 9th in our new auditorium. Our handbell ensemble showed off their ringing skills, the chorus sang beautifully and the band rounded out the evening with some excellent music. These same students weren't done working yet as they started learning to march and perform some patriotic music.
Our 5th & 6th grade musicians performed on May 21st. Our Handbell group graduated from ringing hand chimes to ringing the handbells and gave an outstanding performance highlighting some new techniques. Next to the stage was our 5/6 chorus. They sang beautifully and enjoyed their time on the risers. The 5/6 band concluded the evening with an excellent performance of some band standards that had the audience tapping along to some familiar tunes.
NYSSMA Update
Congratulations to the following middle school musicians for their participation in the New York State School Music Association's Solo Festival at Queensbury High School on May 17th: Parker Duerr-Clark, Grady Juk, Philip Richardson, Annabell O'Brien, Brynn Dunbar, Avery Rodrigue, Alexandra Crombach, Ella Abbey, Maddox Makenzie, Cecily McTygue, Cole Minor, Brendan Murray, Daniel Eddy, Olivia Dymond, Samuel Duerr-Clark, Abram Byron, Noah Butler and Olivia Bills. These students all prepared a solo, scales and were asked to sight read a short musical example for a judge and received ratings of good, excellent and outstanding!
We are SO proud of all of our student musicians! Remember, it's not too late to join our band, chorus or handbell ensembles in the fall!
ELA and Art Class Share a Multi-Cultural Lesson
Mr. Waring and Mrs. Bardin collaborated on a multi cultural lesson where students explored other countries and created artwork to reflect their learning! Pictured are a few examples of our fabulous student art work.

5th Grade Field Trip to Grant's Cottage
On Monday, June 3rd, 5th graders took a field trip to Grant’s Cottage which is a National Historic Landmark located in Gansevoort, NY. This trip aligns with 5th grade standards for ELA and Social Studies. Students spent the day learning about where General Grant spent his final days. They studied artifacts from the time period, and took a tour of his cottage where they were able to see the furniture he used, perfectly preserved. It was a beautiful and engaging day!
6th Grade Field Trip to Albany Institute of History and Art
National Junior Honor Society
On Wednesday, May 29th, the CMS Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 24 seventh grade students as new members. Thank you to the 8th grade students who were honored for being active members and performing over 200 hours of community service, in addition to chapter service projects this year. All of these students earned membership by qualifying academically, but also for demonstrating character, service, leadership and citizenship! We are very proud of all of you!
Floating Classroom
Our grade 8 students participated in the "Floating Classroom" field trip in May. Students learned about the ecology of our region, a brief geological history of Lake George and engaged in many hands-on science activities with real world applications. Topics included: food webs and plankton, water chemistry and quality issues, water clarity and trophic state and more! The trip included working in the stream and out on the lake on the Floating Classroom boat! Thank you to the grade 8 team for this fantastic experience that not only supports our grade 8 science curriculum, but also our Positivity Project SEL curriculum topic: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence.
Fall Sports Sign Ups
Fall sports sign-ups and meetings are going on now! We encourage all students entering 7th and 8th grades in the fall to consider one of our many fall sports! Get active and get involved! Listen to daily announcements or reach out to our Athletic Director, Coach Haskell for more information!
Summer Reading and Writing Challenge
Students entering grades 5-8 are encouraged to participate in a reading and writing challenge this summer. A variety of writing and reading activities with project guidelines/details will be sent home with your child’s 4th quarter report card. The challenge includes writing to your child's ELA teacher, reading a novel from a suggested author series, and writing in their journal weekly “summer-izing” their summer vacation. If your child successfully completes the challenge by the beginning of the school year, they will receive a free admission to the first PBIS Fun Night with one free concession and 5 riverbuck tickets! What a great way to stay engaged in reading and writing over the summer.
