We Have So Much To Be Thankful for in TSD
Dear Thompson Community:
As we prepare to enter Thanksgiving week, I wanted to take a few moments to express my deep gratitude for your continued support and partnership here in Thompson School District. Each month, I spend several hours in our schools, getting a first-hand look at all of the great things that are happening each and every day. None of the achievements that are happening in our classrooms would be possible without the tremendous level of support that we receive from our families and community members. We also want to extend a special thanks to those who supported our recent bond and special levy campaign. In the coming weeks and months, we will be providing you with more information on potential next steps.
Our amazing network of local businesses and nonprofit organizations in the community are also vital to everything that we do. I can’t think of a more perfect example of this spirit of partnership than what we are creating with “The Landing,” a new youth shelter that will open its doors in January. This shelter, which will be housed in the former Monroe Early Childhood building, is a joint partnership between Thompson School District, The Matthews House, Poudre School District and other nonprofit organizations in our community and region. Together, we recognized a need – a need for homeless youth in our community to have a safe place to stay while we provide them with the support that they need to thrive. Working together, our team’s dedication is now culminating in the opening of The Landing. A grand opening ceremony will be hosted on December 18th from 4 pm to 6 pm at the site, which is located at 814 E. 16th Street in Loveland. We hope you will join us for this terrific event.
I am also very thankful for the success that our students are achieving both in and out of the classroom. Our district students, families and staff are celebrating our highest rating since 2016 on the Colorado District Performance Framework and our district achieved many gains in student growth and achievement across TSD, with four schools receiving a performance rating at or above 74 points. Additionally, 24 of our schools received the highly desirable rating of Performance, which is an increase from 19 last year. Our 2023 graduation rate also reached an all-time high of 91.1%.
Beyond academics, our students are also excelling in their competitive activities. Here are a few examples of their tremendous success:
After finishing third last school year, the Thompson Valley High School boys cross country team won the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) Class 4A team title. TVHS had two runners place in the top 10 and five runners placed in the top 20. This is TVHS’ first boys cross country championship in school history.
Thompson Valley High School volleyball has once again won the CHSAA Class 4A State Championship. Over the past four years, TVHS has played in four state championship games and has won three of them. Their win-loss record during this time is an amazing 105-12.
As of publication time of this letter, the Thompson Valley High School football team is also still competing in the Class 3A football playoffs, with the #1 seed in the tournament and an undefeated season.
Mountain View High School set a historical milestone as they were crowned the first ever CHSAA Girls Class 4A Flag Football State Champions. This is the first year that CHSAA has sanctioned flag football, with Colorado being one of 12 states that has done so. This year’s team consisted of students from four TSD high schools as well as students from Longmont, Roosevelt, and Resurrection Christian high schools.
As you can see, we have much to be thankful for – and also much to celebrate. On behalf of our entire TSD community, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and a terrific upcoming holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Schaffer
Superintendent
