November 6, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Lighthouse families,
The fall is moving fast. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I am thankful for the partnership and support we have from our Lighthouse families and everything our facilitators do each day to personalize learning for our students. Continued 2-way communication is a crucial part for our students’ success.
We continue to focus on creating a place where every student feels welcome, safe, and excited to learn. Through morning meetings, community circles, and our design thinking, our staff work closely with students to build a strong sense of community, empathy, and understanding. We’re helping them not only with academics but also with important skills like perspective-taking and connecting with others with kindness and respect.
We enjoyed connecting with families today at our Curriculum Event to help families gain a better understanding of what students are learning when we talk about design thinking. If you were unable to attend and would like the information shared, please let us know.
Reminders and Updates:
- Extended Learning Day: We have Extended Learning Day this Friday, November 8. These days are designed for students to continue to work on their learning goals. Students concurrently enrolled at the high school or Westwood Band will still have classes. High school students will need to check in at the Lighthouse office when they arrive in the morning. Westwood band students should be picked up at Westwood after their class is done.
- Pulse check tomorrow: Watch for our next pulse check coming tomorrow from Possip. Thanks in advance for sharing insights from your current experience. Your perspectives help us celebrate and improve. Thanks for taking a few minutes to respond.
Have a great week!

Spring Lake Park Schools
Test of district’s notification system to happen Nov. 14
Winter weather is soon upon us which means it is time to check Spring Lake Park Schools’ emergency notification system. We use this system to keep you informed about school closings or delays and other emergency information. The district will be testing the system on Thursday, November 14 at 6:30 p.m. Depending on your communication preferences, you will receive an email, text message, voicemail and/or push notification on the SLP mobile app.
If you do not receive the message on your preferred device in your preferred way or if you need to update your phone number or email address, visit the Stay Connected page and click on the “Update contact information and communication preferences” accordion to find directions. If you have any questions, please contact communications@district16.org.
Next Possip Pulse Check: Coming November 7
Our next Possip pulse check is coming your way Thursday, November 7. You will receive a text message and email with a few simple questions asking for feedback on your experience with school. Watch for the messages from Possip and make sure to reply - in your preferred language - to the brief survey and help keep us updated on your experience. You can choose to share your name - or stay anonymous. We do appreciate when people share their names in case there is a need to follow up. It all takes less than a minute.
Volunteers still needed!
Lighthouse is volunteering at Feed My Starving Children to pack meals. FMSC has a student-to-adult ratio that requires Lighthouse to have about 20 adults. Please consider helping us with this volunteer experience. We are signed up for Monday, November 18 from 12-1:45 p.m. at the Coon Rapids location. A background check is required for all volunteers. Please let Laurie Pouliot if you are interested in volunteering at Lpouli@district16.org.
