Message From Superintendent Mueller
Happy Friday, CUSD.
It’s been a busy week in the district, and our first full week of the school year. It was wonderful to see so many people at Back to School Nights at CHS, CMS, and Village this week! Thank you to our staff for fostering such welcoming and engaging experiences for our students, and for sharing them with our parents and guardians. We are grateful for the tremendous support of parents and guardians, and we know it makes a huge difference in the educational success of your students.
We also had our first Governing Board meeting of the year last night. Our monthly board meetings are recorded and can be found HERE on our website.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. CUSD recognizes that suicide is a leading cause of death among youth worldwide, with complex contributing factors. The possibility of suicide requires vigilant attention from our school community. Please click on the button below for additional information and resources.
Our CHS Islander football team has another home game tonight, and it is Military Appreciation Night. Please see the flyer below for ticketing information, as the CIF San Diego City Conference has moved to digital ticketing with advance purchase for entrance to all football games (active duty military with ID get in free tonight). Go Islanders!!
Don’t forget we are heading into a 3-day weekend. All of our schools will be closed on Monday. Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day holiday.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Stacy Morrissey and Sarah Yakutis worked hard during the summer and start-up days ensuring science and math (and ELA!) curricula were ready to go for all teachers. Their attention to detail and understanding of what makes teachers' lives and workdays easier has been invaluable. We are so grateful for this team of amazing ToSAs!!
- Brett Clifford: We have new Campus Assistants this year, and Brett has distinguished himself as a leader on our campus, guiding our new Crew, pitching in to help wherever needed, and getting MANY steps in all over campus. We appreciate Coach Brett so much.
- Amanda Ellison: Be reliable! Amanda is such a fantastic part of Village because she’s reliable and extremely friendly. Walking into the office multiple times this week I’ve seen her hard at work. She is the face of Village and takes care of the long line of parents and children every morning. She always makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the room and she truly cares for my children. Having a job where you have to manage different communication styles, parenting styles, and social styles I can imagine can be difficult. Amanda does it with ease and should be recognized for it!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
If you do not purchase the Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student’s device, the following fees will apply should damage occur:
Damage Type and Replacement Cost Plus Tax
Chromebook - Full Replacement $400
Damaged Keyboard $80
Damaged Screen $80
Damaged Motherboard $160
Damaged LCD Bezel $40
Damaged Camera $40
Lost/Damaged Charger* $22
Lost Case* $19
*Accessories are not covered by the Mobile Device Protection Plan.
