Weller Newsletter
September 2024
Dear Weller Families,
I want to express our gratitude for the kindness and compassion your children have brought to our school. Their actions and attitudes impact their peers and the overall atmosphere of Weller. We have witnessed numerous acts of kindness, from helping classmates to showing empathy and support during a challenging situation. In one example, a student helped another when her friend had a wasp land on her. The student ran and got a dandelion to lure the wasp away from her friend. These behaviors are a testament to the values you have instilled in your children at home. Our students are not only excelling academically but also growing into thoughtful and caring individuals. Thank you for your continued support and for sharing such wonderful students with us. It is a privilege to have them as part of our school family.
We look forward to seeing them continue to thrive and make a positive difference in the world.
I wish you the very best in the weeks ahead, It fills my heart with joy seeing our students learning, playing, and growing together! Please reach out if you need anything at all. It is a great time to be a Weller Whale!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelly C. Thrun
Principal

PARENT INFORMATION
PLEASE SIGN IN
Please stop at the office to sign in and get a visitors badge before heading to classrooms or the Pod.
CHANGES TO CHILD'S GOING HOME PLANS
If your child is going to be picked up instead of riding the bus, needs a bus deviation or any other change from their regular end of day going home plans, please email us a contact-wlr@k12northstar.org , call (907)457-1629 dial 0) or stop by the office NO later than 2:30 PM on the day of change.
Please do not send this information to teachers, as they are often unable to check email, or may even have a sub who would not receive the information. The office will then communicate the change to your child's teacher.
THE POD
Have you heard about our POD? We have a room we refer to as the POD where teachers place items in their “cubby” that they would like help with. Things such as copying, sharpening pencils, collating, cutting, stapling, sorting, organizing, etc. If you have any time to spare (rather than waiting in the pickup line) we would appreciate your help in the POD.
ParentSquare & School Volunteers
PARENT SQUARE: ONE APP FOR DISTRICT, SCHOOLS, CLASSROOM COMMUNICATION
The district is using a new parent communication platform called ParentSquare.
All district, school, class, and grade-level information will now be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text.
Download the ParentSquare app (free for iOS and Android devices) for even more convenience.
Have questions? You're welcome to call the school office. You can also click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.
WE APPRECIATE VOLUNTEERS!
If you're interested in volunteering to support our school, please consider completing the volunteer application, which includes a background check. This is required for any activities involving our students that may take place outside the presence of district personnel, such as field trips or after-school programs. This application isn't necessary for simply being in your student's classroom. Since approval can take a few days, it's wise to plan ahead if you want to volunteer. The approval is valid for four years, so current volunteers may want to consider renewing their status.

Change of Seasons: Means Time for Outdoor Gear and Thinking About Skiing!
OUTDOOR GEAR
As the weather starts to change, please make sure that your child is coming with outdoor gear appropriate for the conditions. We go outside everyday up to -20.
Speaking of gear, our Lost and Found is already overflowing with coats, water bottles, and footwear. Labeling your child's gear will help your items be returned to your child.
Please double-check that your child is coming home with their things, if not, you are welcome to swing by and check out the lost and found.
