Valley High School Update

Tuesday and Thursday will be Encore. Please make sure you have signed up for both Encore days.

Seniors, please remember you must complete CPR in order to participate in the commencement ceremony and earn your diploma. If you are not sure of your status, please check with the Counseling office.

If your student is going to be absent, please call or email our attendance line (515) 633-4000 or vhsattendance@wdmcs.org. Please make sure you know why your student is absent before excusing the absence.

Congratulations to the following debaters for a successful season!

• Alyssa Makena - fully qualified to the debate Tournament of Champions (TOC), invitee at the prestigious Harvard LD Round Robin (one of twelve in the entire country!)
• Shreya Joshi - fully qualified to the TOC, and also qualified to NSDA Nationals in June!
• Ria Tomar - qualified to NSDA Nationals in June!
• Joe Su - First Alternate to NSDA Nationals in June!

Auditions are about to begin for the spring musical Brigadoon! We are looking for actors, dancers, musicians, make up, costumes, tech support and stage managers. Info packets are available in room 1730 beginning Monday, February 14th and Tuesday, February 15th starting at 3:30 PM

Congratulations to Valley's Jazz Orchestra for being selected to perform at the 2022 Iowa Bandmasters Association annual conference at the Downtown Marriott on May 12th, 2022! Of the many outstanding groups from across Iowa who applied for this prestigious honor, Valley's Jazz Orchestra was selected as the featured jazz band for the conference!

International Night is on Thursday, February 24th from 6:00-8:30 in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets will be bought at the event and are $6 per person or $10 for two people. There will be booths, food, activities, and performances. Be sure to bring some extra cash to enjoy henna and different cultural foods/drinks. A portion of all proceeds are going to Genesis Youth Foundation, a charity that makes educational and entertaining experiences for young refugees. Hope to see you there

Please come visit Valley's Career Fair sponsored by IJAG (Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates) and DMACC on Tuesday, March 1st from 4:30 PM-6:30 PM. Explore a variety of careers that are not typically publicized and take advantage of the opportunity to visit with professionals and learn about the requirements to enter their fields.

Dance Marathon is Friday, March 25th from 6:00-10:00 PM this year at the VHS Fieldhouse. Packets are available here. Students may pay their registration fees at lunch, in Student Services, or on their student accounts. 100% of proceeds of this event go to the Iowa Children's Hospital. Thank you to the parents who have signed up to assist with the Valley After-Prom Committee, though more parents and volunteers are needed for the 2022 Prom as this is an entirely parent-run event.

Chess Club has resumed match play Tuesdays after school in the Media Center.

Students who are interested in poetry, prose or artwork are encouraged to submit their work to Ms. Perry (perrye@wdmcs.org) for a chance to be featured in Valley's literary magazine, Ink.

Prayer Club meets Friday morning at 7:20 AM in Mrs. Stanfel's room, 1607. Come for breakfast, fellowship and prayer.

Join the Greenhouse Club in room 1329 the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school.

Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) meets Thursdays 3:30-4:15 in room 3422.
