All other students must leave by 2:45pm.

Football has been selling t-shirts in support of our Tackle Cancer fundraiser this week. Tees are $20 and all profits go to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Monday, October 14th is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In accordance with state statute, our Social Studies teachers across the district have put together lessons for students addressing historical and/or contemporary topics related to our Indigenous communities.

We’re interested in getting some feedback from our students about the quality of those lessons and will administer a very brief survey to our students at the end of the lesson in their Social Studies class.

Per school district policy, parents/guardians are welcome to preview a paper copy of the survey available from the Main Office of the school. All students parking in Student Lots need to have a Fall Semester Parking Permit between 7:30am and 2:30pm on school days. Tickets will be issued to cars that are parked without a permit, parked illegally on the yellow lines or parked in the north faculty lot. Tickets need to be paid within (5) school days.

Having unpaid parking fines will limit opportunities, participation and your car may be towed. There is FREE parking at the Johnny Cake Activity Center parking lots south of Eastview High School near the Tennis Courts. In these lots, please ensure that you are not parking in handicapped spaces or spaces designated for pickleball players. The Apple Valley Police Department patrols these lots and WILL ticket cars that are illegally parked in these spaces.

One-Day permits may be purchased for $5 from the EVHS Attendance Office prior to 7:40am each school day.

All part-time Post Secondary Enrollment Option students can purchase a discounted fall parking pass from Mr. Habeck in Student Services.

Students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in room C150. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. In addition students can also utilize the WIN program to make up tests they may have missed. Students can get this approved through their teacher ahead of time and the test will be ready for them to take during WIN. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 4:45pm.

Attention Parents: Not all textbooks were returned at the end of last school year. Please take a moment to check your shelves and desks for any textbooks that need to be returned for use by this year’s students. All materials can be dropped off in the Learning Commons during school hours.

The deadline for submitting your senior photo to the yearbook is NOVEMBER 15th, 2024.

To maximize the consistency of each senior portrait, our yearbook staff will be utilizing a vertical

"head/shoulder" photo. No props (athletic equipment, instruments, etc.) and no SnapChat filters will be

permitted. This type of portrait allows us to provide consistency in our photos, as well as offer the most clarity in space provided for each senior. The yearbook staff reserves the right to crop any submitted picture to meet these expectations.

ASVAB Assessment: This year, Eastview will offer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Career Exploration Assessment for all 11th and 12th graders on Thursday, November 14 during periods 1-5. This assessment offers a unique opportunity for students to learn about themselves and plan a path for their future after high school. The ASVAB also provides a Military Entrance Score (AFQT) for students who may be interested in perusing a career in the military. You can find more information about this assessment at the ASVAB Career Exploration Program website.

There is no cost to take the ASVAB. Interested students should complete this form by Monday, November 4th. Students will be notified of their confirmed registration on Tuesday, November 5th. If you have any questions, please contact Suze Fulford at susanne.fulford@district196.org or 952-431-8915.

Senior Seminar

Counselors will meet with all seniors during their Social Studies classes on September 20th to share information about post-high school planning and steps in the college application process. We will then be meeting with all seniors one on one at some point during the remainder of Quarter 1. We will have all our seniors sign up for this 1:1 appointment during our seminar day.

Financial Aid Updates

The Department of Education has changed the FAFSA launch date to December 1. The hope is that the delay allows any glitches to be resolved in advance.

Need help understanding the financial aid options for college? Attend free virtual sessions for high school students and families offered by a collaborative of financial aid experts starting October 1. All sessions will have interpretation in Spanish, Somali and Hmong. Students who attend any of the sessions will be entered into a $1,000 scholarship drawing. COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, AND MILTARY VISITS START

Prior to the university/college visits students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend. The university/college visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20/30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, it's a great connection for students. Military visits are during the lunch hour in Student Services.

Park Nicollet’s Growing Through Grief counselor, Jenny Simmonds, will be offering a weekly grief group for Eastview students who have experienced the death of a significant family member (parent, sibling, caregiver, etc.). If your teen is living with loss and you think they could benefit from participating in a grief group, please contact Molly Wellik at molly.wellik@district196.org and we will connect with your student regarding their interest.

Another week and another very fun and successful event raising money for a great cause! 30+ teams with 300+ kids participated in Monday night’s Tackle Cancer Dodgeball Event! Lots of fun was had by all! Boys volleyball instructional open gyms start next week. If you’re interested in boys volleyball, it’s a great chance to learn the game and play some games while you do it. Our captains are hosting fall captains practice for new and returning players at Valleywood Golf Course on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:30, and Sundays from 11:00-12:30. Bring your golf bag, and meet our captains on the putting green for some chipping, putting, and range ball hitting. See Mr. Currie with any questions.

On Saturday, October 5th, the Eastview Marching Band competed in the 2024 Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls, SD. They placed 2nd out of 9 in the Class AAAA division, and 3rd out of 10 in the Finals - and brought home awards for Outstanding Drum Majors and Outstanding Winds!

This hard-working crew will perform again at the Eastview Football game this Friday, and wrap up their successful season at the annual Youth in Music Show at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Eastview Debate Team for recent tournament success. On Saturday October 5th, EVHS competed at the Rosemount Debate Tournament (Public Forum/Congressional Debate formats) and a virtual invitational tournament (Classic Debate format). Top award winners include Joann Kariapuram (2nd Place, JV Congressional Debate), Abby Tranter & Herawie Kebede (3rd Place, Varsity Public Forum Debate), Pranya Duvvuru (3rd Place, JV Congressional Debate), and Taj Bora & Aarav Chakrabarty (3rd Place, Novice Classic Debate). The second half of the debate season is right around the corner. Debaters planning to participate in the second half of the season should plan to come to practice next week. We will only have one practice for each format next week.
