MLSD Insider
Weekly Update // July 1–3
Educational Programming
This week our finance team has continued to make progress on three major initiatives: planning for Material Supplies and Operating Costs (MSOCs), creating a balanced budget for the 2024-25 school year, and re-initiating a state audit for compliance and financial insights.
In addition, many of our clubs and teams are active right now—you may see teams practicing and kids taking trips. Please note that these activities are not funded by the Moses Lake School District. Instead, coaches, community members and parents are volunteering their time, and booster clubs and other outside groups are covering any expenses incurred, such as transportation.
Community Athletics & Activities
In response to the lack of funding for Moses Lake School District extracurricular activities like athletics, band, and clubs, a community support group has formed. The CAA is a non-profit organization with a goal of meeting the extracurricular needs of local students. The CAA is not affiliated with the Moses Lake School District.
With financial support from CAA, Moses Lake School District is committed to providing athletics and activities for students beginning in the fall of 2024. The amount of funding CAA is able to provide will determine the amount of teams and clubs that can be supported throughout the 2024-25 school year. MLSD is supportive of CAA as well as the Moses Lake Booster Club and appreciates all support provided by both groups.
If you would like to be involved with CAA or follow their progress, information is shared on their facebook page.

Garden Heights receives $10,000 Donation for water well repairs
The Moses Lake School District is thrilled to announce a generous donation of $10,000 from Derick and Audra Eckenberg to Garden Heights Elementary School. This substantial contribution will aid in the significant repairs needed to make the school's water well fully operational.
The repair work will be conducted in phases due to the availability of parts. In addition to the water well repairs, any remaining funds from this donation will be allocated towards re-seeding and repairs of the school grounds and building.
"We are incredibly grateful to Derick and Audra Eckenberg for their generosity and support," says Interim Superintendent Carol Lewis. "This donation will make a significant difference in our efforts to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students. The Eckenbergs' contribution is a testament to the strong community spirit that we cherish in Moses Lake."
The Moses Lake School District and Garden Heights Elementary community extends its heartfelt thanks to the Eckenberg family for their meaningful donation.
