Red Mountain Middle School Back-to- Back State Champions
Red Mountain Middle School showcased its dominance at the archery state 3-d championship, claiming the overall team title with precision and skill. The team’s dedication and hard work paid off as they outscored their competition, securing the top spot in a thrilling showdown. Leading the charge were individual state champions Vianey Hernandez and Carmelo Williams, whose outstanding performances set the standard for excellence. Their pinpoint accuracy and steady composure helped cement Red Mountain’s reputation as a powerhouse in middle school archery. Currently, Red Mountain Middle School Archery is rank # 7 in the nation for 3-D.

Valentine's Day at RST
Project Based Learning- 5th graders learning how to make sushi with Chef Yesenia Ramirez.
DIS recognized SRO Quezada and all he does for our school during SRO Appreciation Day.
Dr. Oldham modeled a vocabulary lesson in Language Arts. We appreciate the support she provides our teachers.
DIS Band and Choir hosted Music in Our Schools. Mr. Larsen and his students put on an outstanding concert.
Wacky Wednesday at DIS
Was it in observance of Dr. Suess' birthday or the wacky weather? The staff said, "Wacky Weather Week!"
DIS continues to recognize students for their achievements. Most recently, students were awarded certificates for passing levels on Rocket Math.
6th grade science students launched into a project on how to predict, protect, and prepare for nature hazards by creating graffiti walls of questions and prior knowledge. They also participated in the Great Shake Out where students practiced an earthquake drill.
Choir MPA scored 1st on their performance.
Family Sip + Paint Night from RMMS Community Schools was a success for our families to make memories.
Family Movie Night hosted by RMMS Community Schools was a fun time for everyone from bowling to watching the latest Marvel film.
District Spanish Spelling Bee Diego Quintana 8th grader took first place
Student Council Conference: Students spent weekend in ABQ doing team builders and leadership activities.
On February 13th, Alexa Espino was a guest speaker at the Rotary luncheon at La Fonda restaurant. Alexa shared about her stellar academic accomplishments as a bilingual student and the sacrifices she and her family have made to give her opportunities to study at Deming High School. Alexa plans to attend NMSU in the fall and study psychology in order to prepare her for a career helping people with their mental health struggles.
DHS Educators Rising students work with a 3rd grade class at Memorial Elementary to improve their frisbee skills. This is a great opportunity for mentors to build relationships through positive feedback!
Local Scholarship Opportunity
Community seniors-Local scholarships will open on February 5, 2025, and due to their respected counselors' office by Tuesday, March 25th not later than 4PM. Scholarships will be sent to the seniors via their school email with scholarships available along with the applications. If you have any questions please get in touch with Yvonne Perales scholarship coordinator or your school counselor.
Deming High Robotics Team Prepares for FRC Reefscape 2025
Excitement is building as Deming High School’s robotics team, the Thundercats, gears up for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Reefscape 2025. This year’s challenge will have teams designing and building robots to complete underwater-themed tasks, such as reef restoration and debris removal.
The Thundercats have been working hard since the game was announced in January, brainstorming and building a robot to tackle the unique challenges of Reefscape 2025. With guidance from their mentors and strong support from the community, they are ready to showcase their skills.
The team is also reaching out for sponsorships to help cover costs for materials and travel. They encourage the community to support their efforts as they prepare for competition.
The FRC Reefscape 2025 season is just around the corner, and the Thundercats are determined to make their mark. Stay tuned for updates on their progress, and best of luck to our local team!

Attention Deming High School and MVHS Parents and Community:
We would like to inform you of several upcoming state assessments that are important for our students:
For 11th Graders:
- New Mexico Assessment of Science Readiness (NM-ASR): March 26th
- SAT: April 9th
Please Note: It is essential that students arrive at school no later than 8:30 AM on both test days. Students who arrive after this time will not be permitted to enter the testing session and will need to participate in a make-up assessment on a later date.
For 9th Graders:
- PSAT 9: April 9th
Please Note: As with the 11th-grade assessments, it is crucial that students arrive by 8:30 AM. Late arrivals will not be allowed entry into the testing session and will need to take the assessment on a make-up day.
For 9th, 10th and 12th Graders: Students will have a remote learning day on March 26th
For 10th and 12th Graders: Students will have a remote learning day on April 9th
Important Reminder: On testing dates, students will not be allowed to retrieve their phones until all testing is completed in the building.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all students are prepared and arrive on time for these important assessments.

The Early College High School Experience: Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2025
Early College High School will be accepting 60 ninth-grade students for the 2025-2026 school year. The Early College High School was created by Deming Public Schools to provide a challenging academic program in a smaller setting. Students complete their core high school required credits during the first two years and then take college classes for the remaining two years. The goal is to graduate with a head start on college and an Associate degree.
The application process is open to any student who exhibits a sincere interest in academics and is willing to work hard to meet the demanding expectations. Free DPS busing and meals are provided as part of the school. Early College students can still enjoy the high school related activities and social experiences such as school sponsored dances, clubs, extra-curricular programs, sports, and so much more.
ECHS is graduating its fourth cohort of students but has already seen great student achievement being ranked as a “Spotlight School” by the NM Education Department.
Applications to The Early College High School will need to be submitted by Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Applications can be found at http://echs.demingps.org or by contacting the school at (575) 543-1643. A parent informational meeting will be held at the school, 720 W Buckeye St on Thursday, March 27, at 5:30 pm. This meeting is for parents and students who want more information about enrolling in ECHS for the Fall 2025 school year.

Spring 2025 Testing Schedule
Our students are required by the state of New Mexico to take certain standardized tests as they progress toward graduation. This letter is to provide dates for these testing events and explain how your student can prepare.
9th Grade: Our 9th graders will take the PSAT8/9 on April 9. The test covers Reading & Math and will be about 2 hours long. This prepares your student for successfully taking the PSAT (National Merit Scholarships) & SAT (Graduation Requirement).
11th Grade
Our 11th graders will take two tests for graduation: The NMASR (Science) on March 26 and the SAT (Math and Reading) on April 9. The NMASR is about an hour long with 51 questions. The SAT is about 2 hours long.
Note: 9th, 10th and 12th Graders: Students will have a remote learning day on March 26th
Note: On April 9 both 9th and 11th grade students will be testing in person and should report by 8:20am. Students may leave after lunch once they have successfully completed their testing. 10th and 12th graders will be remote this day and should work on Canvas assignments from home.
Note: 100% of our 12th graders have met testing requirements for 2025. Our 10th graders will take the PSAT in October. This test covers Reading & Math and may qualify your student for National Merit Scholarships.
REACH NM
Reach NM is a service of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD). It allows young people to connect directly with CYFD workers for resources, find help, and report potential abuse or neglect. The service is free to any New Mexican with a text-message enabled cell phone. You never know when you might need help.

· Save the number if you need it in the future.
· Pass it on to a friend in case they need to help for themselves or someone they know.

Deming Public Schools: Special Education Department Destruction of Records
The Special Education Department of Deming Public Schools is announcing the discarding of Special Education Records. Special Education records may be destroyed five (5) years after graduation, or five years after students have exited from Special Education Services in compliance with FERPA regulations. Parents and/ or former Special Education students, who received Special Education Services on/ or before May 2020, may obtain their Special Education records by contacting Ruth Andujo at the Special Education Office by May 2, 2025. Call Ruth at 575-546-0427 Ext 1030 to set up an appointment to obtain these records.
Destruction of records is scheduled to begin June 2, 2025.
