MARCH 27, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Northpoint Families!
With the final trimester of the year now solidly underway, the next two months will go fast. Whether it’s field trips, power hour, school carnival or engaging units being taught, before we know it, summer break will be here. Please keep a close eye on classroom newsletters, teacher emails and the Northpoint newsletter to make sure you stay up to date with all the exciting things happening around the school.
Report cards were sent home with students on Tuesday, March 26. Please remember, report cards indicate where your child is at after the first two trimesters of the year. Staff will continue to introduce new competencies and strengthen ones that were already taught. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.
Finally, just a reminder that there is no school for students this Friday, March 29. Enjoy the long weekend and we will see everyone back on Monday, April 1!
Tyler Nelson
Northpoint Principal

Developing next gen leaders and entrepreneurs
Spring Lake Park High School’s involvement in the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is creating the next generation of leaders in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Students are earning accolades along with business skills – including a gold certification for the student-run coffee shop.
There were 28 students from the Spring Lake Park High School DECA chapter, the largest group ever, who competed alongside 2,600 others at the state competition. DECA prepares emerging leaders in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Members are in all 50 states and several countries.
Under the guidance of advisor and teacher Sarah Welken, the Spring Lake Park High School DECA program shined at state. Seniors Sophie Shimabakuro and Elizabeth Chapman were recognized as Outstanding Senior DECA Members. Elizabeth was in the Top 25 for the Financial Literacy Test. The Chapter earned the opportunity to send four freshmen to Thrive Academy. Sophie and Ingrid Welken, freshman, placed 3rd in School Based Enterprise and received Gold Certification for the Coffee Shop.
DECA career focus areas, or clusters, align to Spring Lake Park Schools' Business and Entrepreneurship pathway, one of three career and college pathways at the high school representing a need for future jobs. Read the full story.
