Dear Silver Creek Families
Welcome to June! We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. With only two weeks left of school, we encourage all students to continue to do their best in their classes and seek support when needed. We want our Huskies to finish out the school year strong! This week is a big week for our 8th grade students. On Friday, June 7, we are excited to celebrate our 8th grade students' promotion. You may see additional information below in the newsletter. Also, this week on Monday, June 3, we welcome our incoming 5th grade students from our feeder elementary schools to visit and tour the school.
Next Sunday, June 9 will be the last SCMS Newsletter to families before summer vacation. We will resume back at the start of the new school year on August 25, 2024.
Let's make it a great week, Huskies. Let's finish the last few weeks of school strong!

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony Reminders
The 8th grade promotion is this Friday, June 7 from 6-8 PM. On June 7, students must arrive in the cafeteria by 5:30 PM to line up. Please plan accordingly. All unclaimed promotion tickets will be available at the Will Call table on the day of promotion.
Please let your child's counselor know if you or your child are not attending promotion so we can offer any extra tickets to families. We will have a limited amount of extra tickets (every student received two). Families who requested extras were randomly chosen last week prior to promotion. We are excited to celebrate and promote all 8th grade students during this special ceremony.

Library Media Center News & Updates
All library books were due back in the library media center last week, THURSDAY, MAY 30th. If your child has not done so, please make sure they return their books. If your student has lost a book, please send them to the media center with cash or a check (made our to Silver Creek Middle School) for the replacement cost. Prices and checkouts are in our Destiny Catalog HERE. Have your student log in and click on "My Stuff." Happy May to all our Husky readers and families! Traveling Exhibit: The Life and Experiences of Anne Frank
B-CC HS is partnering with the Anne Frank Center at USC to bring a traveling exhibit about the life and experiences of Anne Frank. Silver Creek students are invited to join for an Open House to tour the exhibit on Monday, June 3rd, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The exhibit is located at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, 4301 East-West Highway, Bethesda, MD, 20814.

Counseling Department News & Updates
We have one more opportunity for students to come to the pantry, June 7. During the summer, the pantry is open for caregivers to come and receive any food items. Please contact the counseling office at 240-740-2211, to ensure someone is at the school to greet you. If you have any questions about the pantry please contact Ms. Susan Levine at Susan_P_Levine@mcpsmd.org
Some mental health opportunities for students . If you go to the tab reading Middle School Books Articles and More there are youth mental health workshops and Divas and Donuts (a group for girls).
Information about "Empowering Your Wellbeing: Tools for Young Minds" for middle school students put on by the girl scouts! The flyer can be found on the counseling website. There are also additional resources. If your family needs help with school supplies, food for the weekend, winter coats or other needs, we would like to help! Time is running out. All parents/caregivers interested in purchasing an SCMS yearbook, please go to walsworthyearbooks.com, and click on Buy a Yearbook at the top of the page. Then type in Silver Creek Middle School when the dialog box pops up.
The cost of the yearbook is $35.

Principal Coffee
We are excited to have principal coffees once a month on Fridays from 8:30-9:10 am. Our last principal coffee of the year was Friday, May 24. If you missed it, you may view it below. Montgomery County Recreation Summer Camps
Montgomery County Recreation offers a wide variety of exciting summer programs throughout the County with an emphasis on safety, convenience, affordability, and most of all fun. There are a ton of summer programs designed to appeal to a variety of campers.

Free and Reduced Meals
The application is now open for parents and guardians to complete and submit for assistance with the cost of school meals. Families of students who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals can apply for this service. Eligibility is based on family size and gross income. Beginning this year, students in Maryland who qualify for reduced-price meals will not be charged for breakfast or lunch meals.

Early Dismissal Reminder
If you need to pick up your child for an early dismissal, please send your child in to school with a note to give to the main office. This will help to facilitate your child being ready in a timely manner and will minimize any potential disruption to instruction. We greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Student Absence
If a student is going to be absent, the parent/guardian is asked to call the attendance line at 240-740-2201 the morning of the absence. In your message, please include the information listed below:
1. Parent/Guardian name
2. Full name of your student (First & Last); student ID#
3. Date(s)of absence
4. Reason for absence
