Kay's Creek Connection
Week of August 26 Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Hello Kay's Creek Families,
We had a wonderful first week of school. Teachers started the year by getting to know students, building classroom communities, and teaching expectations and procedures. This week they added in more academic instruction and that will continue building over the next few weeks. I have been in classrooms multiple times this week and found myself in awe of what I saw. I saw friendship building, teachers and students celebrating each other, singing, cheering, hardworking and focused students, and hands raised by eager learners. We will continue establishing both social and academic behavioral expectations and celebrating the great things happening each week.
Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Kay's Creek, for the remainder of August and September our district social and emotional theme is Being A Friend. When was the last time we considered what kind of friend we were? What about our role as a spouse, parent, or co-worker? I admire the individual who seems to always be selflessly giving their time and energy to others. That same friend, steady and consistent, seems to operate so often with kindness and generosity; rarely giving much thought to their own needs. Author and orator Robert Ingersoll said, “we rise by lifting others.” Who are we to the people we see each day? What do we bring to our relationships? Do we give back more than we take? Do our loved ones and friends feel uplifted when they're around us? These are some questions to think about as we consider Every1. This week we can start by focusing less on what we need from others, and rather, what we can give to others. Whether it's in the form of service, kind words, or time. We can strive, in small daily ways, to be that friend we see in others.

Policies & Procedures
Reminders:
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. This will be reviewed with students during the code of conduct presentation. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Thank you for your understanding.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
Kay's Creek has part-time teacher assistant positions open in special education. If you know someone interested in applying, please direct them to apply on the DSD Careers page or reach out to Principal Bukey.
