Did You Know...?
Intermediate School to Alder Avenue Middle School
While most people know that our district schools have served various purposes and grade levels over the years, newer staff may not realize that the district only had one middle school prior to the 2007-08 school year (hard to believe it has been 17 years now). Fernwood Avenue was simply known as EHT Middle School housing grades 6-8 while Alder was known as EHT Intermediate School housing grades 4 and 5. Transitioning from an intermediate to a middle school was a big undertaking from facilities, athletic, and curricular perspectives. A mural was created by EHTHS Senior Joanna Hoang in 2016 (see attached image) celebrating the bond amongst the two middle schools as they prepare all district students for success in the high school’s Freshman Academy.
New Special Education Supervisor, Ms. Kimberly Savino
Please welcome Kimberly Savino as the newest member of the district’s administrative team, taking on the role of Supervisor of Special Education effective January 16. Kim has served on the Child Study Team at Alder School in the role of LDTC since 2019. Prior to joining EHT, she was a Math and Basic Skills Teacher in Linwood school district. Not only is Kim an EHTHS graduate but she and her husband Ed are the proud parents of three of EHTHS’ finest who are currently attending THE Ohio State University (Nathan), Wheaton College-MA (Ellie), and Coastal Carolina University-SC (Gianna). Best wishes to Kim as she embarks on this new and exciting chapter of her career.
Congratulations to our Soaring Staff of the Month!
Food Services
This month's soaring star is Sharmin Kabir, who works at Bargaintown Preschool. Sharmin has been with the district for 3 years. During her time here Sharmin started out as a substitute cafeteria worker working her way up to the cashier position. Sharmin has been an interictal part of that program opening its food services 2 years ago. Organizing, serving, and keeping daily state records for the department is one of the many duties Sharmin takes care of on a daily basis.
Transportation
This month's soaring star is Christina Tavormina. Chris has been employed since 2007 primarily as a mini- bus driver. Ms. Tavormina possesses all of the qualities necessary to transport and care for some of our neediest students from Pre-school to High School without hesitation. She is hard working and dedicated to our department, her co-workers and her students.
