Prajwal P's experience in the Special Olympics
Special Olympics is a fun event for the special needs kids where they can play fun filled games and have a fun time. Me, Sahishnu and Ojas were volunteering at the Athletic Area, where we set up two games on our portion of the field. We set up a golf game, where you had to hit a cone from different areas, once you passed a level, you would move on to the next one. This was a fun game for the kids for them to use the golf clubs and to test their skills. We also had a special kind of cornhole game, where they would have 6 beanbags and see how many points you could get. Many kids tried these games, and it was very cool to see even if they had special needs, they were very good at these games and seemed like they were having a lot of fun. I was amazed and surprised of how they played so well in these games. These kids are very kind and sweet as well. We also helped clean up and played a little football as well. We all left around 1pm. For us, it was a very fun experience for us to work with these and we also had fun playing football. I hope we get to do something like this again so we can get a fun experience while being able to help other people or being able to create fun for others.

Names for medical forms by Pranet G
Hello Troop,
A lot of you have filled out this MANDATORY form so we can get a roster for medical records but a lot of you have still not filled it out so please make sure to fill it out as it is necessary so my mom can organize the medical forms.
Thanks,
Pranet.
Court of Honor by Darsh D.
The Court of Honor was an interesting experience, I recommend every one to be the Master of Ceremonies at one point in their scouting career. For any one who doesn't know what a Court of Honor is, in summary, it is a celebration and formal ceremony where we celebrate our accomplishments, advancements, and awards.
This time around, me and Samarth P. were the MC's and we both worked very hard to make the script for the Court of Honor, and we scheduled many meetings to rehearse the script and make sure the COH to be a successful event. Lots of hard work was also made by the adult leaders and Scout master, who reviewed and edited the script and helped in arranging the event. Ojas S, also helped us by giving important inputs and advice.
We started with the pledge of allegiance and then the scout oath and lit a candle for each point. We started with Rank Advancements and New scouts. After that, we went over each scout and what merit badge each scout earned. We then went over all the trips and a brief summary on each trip and event.
To end off, we retired the colors and had refreshments, thanks to Mrs. Chamuniya for arranging the refreshments.
Thank you to all the scouts for coming and helping out, it was great teamwork and scout spirit.
Swimming Merit Badge by Krishiv S.
The Swimming merit badge was my first eagle-required merit badge. At first, we met at the library in the conference room, "b." to get some of the discussion requirements like learning the acronym "P. T. Q. B. A. L. L. S".
After that, we went to our first pool section. The first thing we did was the BSA swimmers test. I was one of the few that passed on the first try. We then did our reaching rescues, survival floating, and the help and huddle positions. When it came time to do the line throws, I made it realistic when I was a victim, by flipping upside down and grabbing Darsh when he swam too close, because that is what a drowning person would do in that situation, and trying my best to drag Iniyan. Then we did the diving. After the first session, Iniyan Taught me the proper technique. You have to fall in with your hands above your head and thrust yourself downwards.
In our second session, I arrived early to practice. then once everyone arrived, some of them had to do the simmer test so we practiced. After they were done we did (or redid) our diving requirements and did requirement 4 and then I was done. Me and Iniyan practiced our dives and then I went home.
This summarises my experience with the swimming merit badge. From remembering P. T. Q. B. A. L. L.'s to the first pool section and to completing the swimming merit badge.
Memorial day Service project by Caleb M.
The Memorial Day project was a very fun project. I was the first person from Troop 89 there, but
Troop 193 was almost ready. We met their Scoutmaster Mr. Weber. He was very nice and said
he was glad Troop 89 was able to help. Andrew and his mom, Noah and his father, and Iniyan
and his father all arrived prior to the 10 AM start. We were one large group that split up into
smaller groups to place flags in different sections of the cemetery. There were around 1400
flags and 50 grave markers when we started.
I started in section 2 with my dad, and we started to replace flags. Iniyan and Noah came to
help out. We started to locate all the flags. There were some flags that were in really bad
condition, and some there were still decent. The grave markers on the other hand, either were
in great condition or they looked like they got hit by a hammer. After replacing the flags on a
veterans grave, we would salute them and say their name in our heads.
At about an hour in, we had replaced around 250 flags and 5 grave markers. We also had
another box of flags so we could replace more. We looked through all of the previous graves to
see if we had missed any, and I found some. About 30 minutes later, we went to get another box
of flags. We started working on another section. There were a lot of veterans there, and saluting
them was a great honor for their great sacrifice. Around 11:30 Iniyan and his father left for an
appointment. We started on another section. We stopped because we ran out of flags about an
hour later.
While most of Troop 89 and Troop 193 worked mostly separate, it was nice to see another troop
participating in a service project. After the project, Mr. Weber invited Troop 89 to come back to
lay wreaths on the veterans graves this December. Hopefully you will be there to hang them
with us!
We did not take any pictures. Some participants said they felt unsure about taking pictures of
the graves, so we decided to not take any.
Arya D.'s Cycling Merit Badge
On the first day I went a hill/small mountain. Over they told us how all the parts are important of a cycle. They told us about the parts of the cycle. They also told us that the rules of cycling if you are in public. They explained what kind of helmet you should we wearing. They also told us about the hazards that we should avoid and the things that we should do if we fall. They also told us what you need to wear so all the cars would know that you are there.
They told us to bring the blue, a cycle flashlight( it is a thing that connects to the cycle and then you can watch the road with it) and you need to bring a back flashlight to as the car should see you from the back.
After that we went for a 2 mile ride in the mountain.
After one week we went for a 5 miles ride in some garden and that was really fun.
I am going to go for a 8 miler tomorrow in the morning so we will tell how it was in class.
After that there is 22 miler but that is going to be after 1 whole month.

June Trip by Prajwal Pabbathi
June Pocono Rafting
Hello Troop,
For the June trip, I will be leading a trip to Lehigh River in Pennsylvania on June 21-23. On both Friday and Saturday night, we'll be staying at Hickory Run State Park, which is about 20 minutes from the rafting company. On the river, we'll be completing class 2-3 rapids, which are completely safe but truly enjoyable! The cost of the total trip will be around $85-90 (food, campsite, cost of rafting). Below is a link to the rafting company as well as Hickory Run State Park where you can see all of the wonderful pictures. You do not have to be an expert to enjoy this experience; our troop hasn't had many rafting trips lately, so this one will not disappoint! If you would to join this exciting trip, please fill out the consent form below. You don’t have to be a swimmer to raft on this trip. Please email me if you have any other questions. The consent form will close on May 3rd at midnight so we are able to get the spots for rafting. Hope to see you there for this exciting trip!
