Monday Memo - April 1, 2024
Washburne Families,
We hope everyone had a safe and restful spring break. We’re looking forward to an exciting third trimester full of learning and fun school events for students and families.
Students at Washburne will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) beginning this week on Thursday, April 4th. Testing will continue next week on Tuesday, April 9th and Thursday, April 11th. Students should get a good night of rest and bring their fully-charged iPads to school each day to be prepared for testing.
Thank you to the families who joined us for our 3/21 WPI presentation on, “The Developmental Progression of the Middle School Child”. If you were unable to attend, Click Here for the video and slides from the presentation.

Practices are Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays from 3:30-4:30pm. Students can come as their schedules allow - practices are not mandatory. Meets typically happen once a week, and are optional as well. On good weather dates, students should plan to meet in the back field between Washburne and Skokie.
- Our first practice will be tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2.
- Registration is now open via the District Web Store.
Please contact Andy Becker at AndyBecker@winnetka36.org for any questions.
More information regarding the season will be sent home before Spring Break to all registered students.
Window to Washburne
Welcome to Window to Washburne! Each week, we will be highlighting some of the learning taking place in our classrooms.
Most people will tell you that the Emmy’s, Grammy’s, Oscar’s, and Tony’s are the top awards shows each year. Well, it’s time to add another awards show to this esteemed list, the Moddy’s. Students in Mr. Rice’s social studies class submitted nominations for the most significant people, events, and inventions of the modern era. Through written essays, movie trailers, and posters, students identified the things that they viewed as being the most significant and conducted research to justify their claims. On Friday before break, the top nominees and winners were revealed in each category.
Kudos to Mr. Rice and his students for investigating history in such a fun way.

Dr. Kelly Tess, Superintendent, is joined by three impactful women in our school community: Denise Dubravec, Winnetka Campus Principal/Assistant Superintendent at New Trier High School; Winnetka Public Schools alum Norah; and Marena Rudy, a Winnetka Public Schools Board Member.
