The Tuesday Notice
March 4, 2025
The Raven Class (6th Grade) finished up their second block on the history of Rome by completing their Rome Projects. Wyatt Bull's working model of a Roman Ballista was particularly fun to demonstrate! Culminating projects like these allow our students a deeper dive into a topic within their block of study that they are interested in and allows them a chance to more closely connect with the curriculum. From shelter projects in third grade, to the Eighth Grade Project, these hands-on experiences help students synthesize their learning, develop their presentation skills, and allow them direct participation in their own learning.
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
As we look ahead to the 2025-26 school year, we are still seeking about 8-10 more first-grade students, along with a few more students in other grades, to ensure full enrollment. A full first-grade class is especially important in helping us complete our budget and maintain tuition at a similar level to this year.
We know that the best way for new families to discover the magic of the Siskiyou School is through our current community—you! If you know of any families who may be interested, especially those with a rising first grader, please connect with them and encourage them to explore our school.
A great opportunity for prospective families to visit is our March Main Lesson Tour on Thursday, March 6, at 8:30 a.m. This is a wonderful chance for them to see our classrooms in action and experience the warmth and richness of our curriculum firsthand.
Applications are now available, and we are actively processing enrollments for the upcoming year. Your support in sharing this opportunity is incredibly valuable—thank you for helping us ensure a thriving school community! Interested families with any questions can reach out directly to Kristin Beers, our Assistant Administrator, at kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org or by calling the main office 541-482-8223.
Warmly,
Katherine

8th Grade Project Presentations
We're excited to see 8th grade projects coming up on our school calendar. Next month, the Forest Class will present their 8th grade capstone projects to the Siskiyou School Community. They are asked to describe what topic they chose to study for their project, what they learned over their apprenticeship, and to respond to questions from the live audience. Please note the dates above and plan to join us in Pine Hall. Parents and community members welcome!
We’re happy to be able to share our 8th grade project presentations with our wider community over Zoom. A link to join us online will be sent to all currently enrolled parents on Monday, March 10. You are welcome to tune in and check out the work done by the Forest Class this year, but please, for the safety of our students, do NOT post this link over social media.
8th Grade Project Presentations will also be recorded and available to view through a YouTube link.
Childcare is available for our Window into Waldorf talk with an RSVP to Amy Bull at 541-4882-8223. Thank you!

The pledge sheet is affixed to the front of the envelope. Thank you for participating!

Testimonials Wanted!
The Grants Committee is hard at work securing funding opportunities that will support and enhance our wonderful school. As part of this effort, we are gathering testimonials from parents and caregivers to help illustrate the impact our school has on students, families, and the community. Your words of appreciation, personal experiences, and reflections on what makes our school special can be incredibly powerful in demonstrating the value of our programs. If you are willing to share your thoughts, we would greatly appreciate your help in crafting heartfelt testimonials that highlight your gratitude, observations, and the meaningful role our school plays in your child’s education and growth. CLICK HERE to add your testimonial and feel free to answer one prompt or the other!
Emergency Contact Information
Please help us out! Recently, we've needed to support quite a few children by contacting their local "back-up" person. Please let Amy know if your person's information has changed or you have another local contact to add. Thank you!
Lost and Found is FULL!
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is filling up! We'd love to invite you to come by and see if any of your child's missing clothing items are sitting and waiting to be claimed. We also have a selection of dishes that are left over from a variety of school events.
Oregon Battle of the Books - Hooray for Reading!
We had our third annual OBOB battle on Friday, where 10 amazing teams came and showed off their knowledge and team spirit! Thank you, Kristin Beers, for holding so many pieces the last three years while moderating and thank you Samae Chlebowski for your wonderful inaugural year moderating. I also want to thank the incredible parents who helped set up, bring food and clean up. Extra special thanks to the parents who stepped in for timing and scorekeeping and the folks who coached the teams throughout the year. Without our amazing volunteers we wouldn't be able to make OBOB happen!
We are so proud to be sending our winning 4-5th grade team The Three Book-a-Teers on to the OBOB regional battle in Central Point on March 8th. Our 6th grade team The Slaying Rizzlers will also be moving on to the middle school regionals in Rogue River on March 15th!
Who are The Three Book-a-Teers you ask? Quinn Murphy in 4th grade and Addie Axel and Georgia Macleod in 5th grade were already fast friends from being on a soccer team together so they were a natural partnership for OBOB this year. They began meeting weekly in late October at Addie's house over yummy snacks while mamas chatted and little siblings played. Each Book-a-Teer read the 16 OBOB books with gusto. Quinn's favorite book is Mystwick School of Musicraft by Jessica Khoury. Addie's is Thirst by Varsha Bajaj. Georgia's is Leonard (My Life as a Cat) by Carli Sorosiak. Usually, OBOB teams have at least 4 participants but this team was content with their happy trio. They decided to lean into the strength of three by naming the team the Three Book-a-Teers. They are thrilled to represent the Siskiyou School at the 3rd-5th grade regional competition in Central Point on Saturday, March 8 this year. This amazing team is coached by the lovely Annie Macleod!
Be sure and cheer on these teams over the next two weeks as they represent our school throughout the Valley.
Registration for Spring Break Camp closes on Monday, March 10! Reserve your spot today!
Class 1 - Mrs. McNamara
Times are good in 1st grade!
We are learning so much every day! Last week the children received their flutes which will now be kept in their beautifully knitted flute cases from Handwork Class.
In Main Lesson we are in a reading block and learning about all the many different word families. We are starting to read words and we have learned about what makes up a sentence. The first sentence we wrote into our main lesson books was: “The man had caps to sell” – from the story: “Caps for Sale” – so fun!
Now we are in play rehearsals! It’s exciting to work on our first play together. The children have learned their lines and we are now putting it all together. Our performances will be on March 13th and 14th; see more details in the calendar section.
We are excited to see first flowers sprouting out of the earth and feeling the first signs of Spring!
Best greetings from our classroom to you; Aurilia McNamara

Siskiyou School Composts Food!
All students, their families, teachers and staff are invited to take advantage of the Ashland Community Compost drop off location at the Siskiyou School! Brought to you for the school year by a donation from a Siskiyou School parent and support from the school administration and faculty. Find the big yellow bucket next to the recycle bins in the school parking lot and help us fill it up each week. See https://ashlandcommunitycomposting.org/ for information on what can be composted and why this small step helps reduce greenhouse gas contamination. No plastic labels, wires, or garbage please. Fully compostable Bio bag liners are fine.
