Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Aleksandra 10TA and Ellie 10CA.
Year 9 Emilia:
Year 9 student Emilia competed at the Junior National Outdoor Championship on July 6th and 7th and placed 4th in metric round (Metric 3) Barebow under 15 women and 3rd in imperial round (Bristol 3) Barebow under 15 women, winning the Bronze medal. Well done Emilia!
Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our English team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Miss Earl has nominated 7AB2 for their enthusiasm and determination when studying Shakespeare for the first time. They have embraced the challenging nature of Shakespearean texts and should be proud of themselves! They are becoming wonderful “text detectives”.
Also nominated are 8AX for their thoughtful and ambitious contributions during our study of a range of speeches. In particular Mia M, Ariana M, Alfred E, Riley F, Dyllon H and Tarak H have shown fantastic progress in their analytical skills. Well done 8AX!
Miss Vye would like to say well done to 10BZ and 10C for the hard work they have put in to preparing and delivering their spoken language component for GCSE English Language. There were a wide variety of interesting topics which students delivered with confidence.
Also nominated are 7AB1 for their enthusiasm for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Students are always eager to volunteer to read and have been reading the challenging text beautifully, in particular Joel A, Kaleb F, Ruby R, Alfie R and Dusan.
Mrs Tanser has nominated Year 9 student Anna for showing some great resilience during some tricky work around analysing text. Also nominated are Emily B and Aoife for consistently trying their hardest and always giving 100% to the lessons. Year 7 students Amelia and De-Yarna have made great progress this year and finally Year 10 students Emily I and Leighton for displaying fantastic resilience completing their speeches.
Miss Magnay has nominated the following Year 9 students have worked incredibly hard every lesson, completing all work to a high standard and providing excellent contributions to class discussions: Sophie, Ethan, Akshara, Rhys, Mirren, Riley, Gabriela, Patricia, Olivia, Naimah, Laura and Wiktoria.
10AZ and 10CY have been completing their Speaking and Listening Endorsements over the last two weeks and have shown excellent resilience in their own speech and have shown brilliant support to each other.
Mr Mupingo has made the following nominations this week:
8AY and 8B1 - It's lovely to see these classes engaging and getting their work done with fewer disruptions in recent weeks. Well done! Special mention goes to Melande, Uros, Melissa, Maciej, and Julia for their consistency in producing high-quality work. High fives to Liam T, Kaiden, Vlad, Caeden Illamati, Alisha, Nicole, and Szebasztian for working so hard. Well done and keep it up!
9AB3 - Simply amazing!!! Each and every one of you deserve a special mention for being absolutely fantastic to teach. Well done!
9CY - You have made tremendous strides in raising the standards and adhering to class expectations. Special mention goes to Olivia, Brachen, Maja, Mirren, Kate, Megan, Harry, and Scarlett. Well done, everyone!
10ATX - It has been a joy to teach this class. Making singular mentions would be an injustice to the rest of the class, as you are all amazing. Thank you for your hard work!
Mrs Hegarty would like to say well done to 7AB5 who have approached A Midsummer night's dream with lovely ideas responses. Special mention to Dexter R for being the first student to volunteer to read, as well as Samuel B, Beth G, Rhiannon M and Riley P for their hard work.
Year 8 have been working on speeches and rhetoric and have jumped into this topic with a lot of enthusiasm. Katie C, Charlotte D and Aarushi G in 8AZ have really impressed Mrs Hegarty with their thoughtful and intelligent responses. Well done!
Year 9 have been reading A View From The Bridge and both classes include students who have made progress and lots of effort in lessons. In 9AB2 Mia B and Natalia J's language analysis has been excellent, supporting others with their ideas. In 9C1 Jorja E and Patrick C have produced some excellent conversations points in regards to the themes of the play. Bradley L, Halle M and Aurelia W's book work has been fantastic throughout. Well done, everyone!
Matilda the Musical

Curriculum Focus:
Each week we will share with you what our students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for DT and Engineering.
Year 7
Across the Design Technology specialisms we have been working hard on the projects using the different materials.
In food there have been some wonderful dishes produced such as flapjacks and quesadillas which the students loved to make. They have been learning about health and safety and food provenance. In engineering they have been making an acrylic holder and learning about thermosetting and thermoplastic materials. In DT the students have been making a racing car and learning about timbers.
Year 8
The students have been working hard on skills in food there have been some great dishes produced such as oven baked risotto and penne al arribiata. They have been reinforcing health and safety skills and learning about food choice. In engineering they have been making a coat hook of their own chosen design and learning about the properties of metals . In DT the students have been making a trinket box of chosen designs and there have been some amazing outcomes of these projects.
Year 9
The students have been working hard on skills in food there have been some great dishes produced such as a red Thai curry and chcolate brownies. They have been learning about food science and the properties of foods using a variety of methods such as food science investigations and sensory testing. In engineering they have been making a mechanical toy of their own chosen design and learning about the properties of timbers and joints. In DT the students have been making a bird house which have challenged students and encouraged them to adapt designs as they have gone through the making process.
Year 10
The food students have been busy working on their mock NEA to prepare them for next year. The DT students have started their NEA and engineering are preparing for their NEA focussing on key skills for September.
