Hello, Deer Canyon families!
Today, we launched ourselves into the weekend with our second FUNky Friday of the school year! We celebrated birthdays, Mileage Club accomplishments, students caught being kind, and more. Our Westview Ambassadors team performed a skit and our 5th graders stole the show with their performance.
This week, we welcomed Ms. Keely, the newest and final addition to the DC noon duty team (we're rebranding our noon duty’s title to “Character Coach” — more to come)! She jumped right in and is getting to know students while actively supervising multiple zones on our playground, alongside our now-complete Character Coach team. We also participated in a safety drill on Monday and the nationwide fall season Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday. Thank you to those that participated.
Next week, we will host a School Site Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 9, at 7:45 am in Room 14 and via Zoom (agenda). Additionally, I will host another Coffee with the Principal on Friday, Oct. 13 from 9 to 9:45 am in the DCES Library. Submit your feedback by Wednesday, Oct. 11, for preferred topics of conversation. In November, I will host an evening opportunity in lieu of morning coffee. More to come!
The month of October brings many exciting events: The week of October 23 is Character Counts & Red Ribbon Week for Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Prevention. The 2023 Red Ribbon campaign theme is, "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™" This year’s theme is a reminder that everyday Americans make significant contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live drug-free! Additionally, I am so excited for Monster Mash on the evening of October 27 and our Halloween Parade on Tuesday, October 31, at 9:10 am. Mark your calendars!
We are experiencing an uptick in cold and flu germs on campus. We want to keep our students and staff healthy, happy, and in our classrooms! Please help remind your student of appropriate personal hygiene routines, including washing their hands, covering their mouth, and providing ample space between them and others, when feasible.
As a reminder, school breakfast is only served until the clean-up bell at 8:48 am. Please ensure that your student arrives at school between 8:30-8:48 am if they plan to access school breakfast. Students should be in the class, ready to learn, by 8:55 am. Please help remind your student that they should be eating breakfast before playing, to ensure they are on time to class.
