Seeing representation in print and storytelling is important to students building identity and connecting to common life experiences. Below are just a few examples of the many books highlighting Latino characters.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latino and Hispanic communities. It will last from Sunday, September 15, 2024 – Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The event commemorates how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society at large. September 15 was chosen as the kickoff because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of five “Central American neighbors,” as Johnson called them—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Those five nations declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. In his proclamation, Johnson also acknowledged Mexico, which declared its independence from Spain on September 16, 1810. To read more please click the images or follow the links.

Visit the Ohio Statehouse for a free guided tour. Tours begin at 10 AM and end with the final tour at 3 PM. The Ohio Statehouse is open daily except for holidays. Please call in advance to schedule tours for 10 or more participants. Tours depart from the Map Room easily accessible from the Third Street entrance.

Dig into history with Ohio Archaeology Day! Explore Ohio’s past with archaeologists from across the state. Learn what it takes to be an archaeologist, participate in a mock dig on site, and hear from experts in the field. This event is free, though advance tickets are recommended. Activities will include presentations, partner booths and hands-on stations.

Registration is Now Open for students in Grades K-8, the cost is $35 per cheerleader. All cheerleaders will learn chants and cheers during their Monday and Wednesday practice. Everyone will cheer during the 2nd quarter of the Grandview Football Game on Fri, Oct. 11th.
