LACROSSE - SECTION PLAYOFFS TONIGHT
Irondale will face off against a familiar foe tonight in Mahtomedi. It will mark the third time in four years the teams have met in the Section 4 playoffs. Unfortunately, the results have not been good to the Knights. In 2022 the Zephyrs spoiled Irondale's hopes to advance to the section finals for the first time with a 7-6 upset win over the #1 seeded Knights at Irondale. A year later the Zephyrs, this time on their home field, made easy work of the Knights in a 12-1 drubbing. They would go on that year to upset #1 Stillwater and advance to the state tournament. Mahtomedi is led by senior faceoff specialist and Division 1 commit Sam Churchill who also has 10 goals and 23 assists, but will be without senior Oskar Magnussen, also a Division 1 commit, due to injury. The Zephyrs come into the game having finished second in the Metro East conference with a 4-1 record, 9-4 overall, and a 3-game losing streak which includes an 8-6 loss to Mounds View. The Knights will also enter the game on a bit of a losing streak having lost to Duluth and Minnetonka in their last two. The Knights finished the conference season at 5-4 and 7-6 overall. The winner will face #1 seeded Stillwater on Monday.
TENNIS RESULTS
Congratulations to Senior Captains Michael Sipahimalani and Erik Olson for finishing Runner-Up at the 5AA Section Doubles Tournament! They are the first Irondale doubles team to qualify for the State Tournament in 25 years! They'll be playing June 5th and 6th at the Baseline Tennis Center. Good Luck Boys!
