We hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend!
Health Fair- Hellstern Middle School is hosting a Health Fair April 8th. Tons of community resources will be set up so you can learn more about all this area has to offer in health and wellness. Cosmo will be attending (our mascot) and we hope you will also! See details below....
Safety- We have noticed an increase in the number of students waiting by the doors in the mornings when we open at 7:25. If your child walks to school, please ensure they will not arrive prior to 7:25. If your child is a car rider, we ask that he/she stay in the car with you until the doors are opened. Thank you for helping us to keep your children safe until the doors open!

Let's talk about Lice:
Head lice are tiny wingless insects that live in human hair. They hatch from small eggs, called nits, which are attached to the base of individual hairs. The nits hatch in ten days and reach maturity in about two weeks. Often a child has been infected for several weeks before becoming symptomatic.
- Lice do not cause disease.
- In their early stages, lice are very difficult to see. Often, their eggs (or "nits") are easier to see and appear as small specks on individual hair shafts.
- Lice come from a family of parasites that must stay on their host to survive. If they are off the body for two to five days, they die.
- Direct head-to-head contact is by far the most common means of transmission. This could be at play time, school, camps, slumber parties, home, and even posing for selfies! They do not have body structures like wings or musculature necessary for flying or jumping. Head lice do have six short legs that enable them to crawl very quickly.
- It is spread by contact with clothing, hats, headphones, jackets, backpacks, hairbrushes and so on. Children can come into contact by simply laying on a bed, couch, or pillow that recently came into contact with an individual with lice.
- Lice do not discriminate and actually prefer clean hair to dirty hair because it’s easier for the egg to be cemented to the hair shaft.
Safety Section from Mr. Cobb, CSSO
For Car Riders, be sure not to open your door before the car stops. And if you drop something by or under the car, do not reach for it. Step back and tell an adult to make sure the driver knows so the item can be safely retrieved. Remember, Safety is Everybody's Job!
